in another thread we are discussing short holes.
What is the shortest hole you have ever played.

I have found some in the 130's, but I can not recall any holes under 100ft.

WOW 57ft. is it heavily wooded with a small lake...of LAVA?

I wouldn't play that hole unless their is a disc eating lion chained to a thorn bush that is on fire between the tee and the basket. -myself on another thread

Hole 4 at Sunbury DGC - 115'
http://www.dgcoursereview.com/view_image.php?p=course_pics/1879/ad7fc092.jpg

Its a fun little hole that goes up a small hill in the woods before a real hard left turn. There are enough trees that ace runs aren't as easy as the distance would indicate. This course is fairly short through out but does have a 330' and a 420' hole.

NO 5 at Chimney Rock is 100 feet through the trees and over an stream that it would be hard to get one out of.

A course (Buncombe County Park - not on this site yet... I need to get permission to put it up) that is in Asheville has 6 holes ranging from 101' - 179'. It's wide open (not a tree on the property), flat, and has no OB. A good course for kids or girlfriends to learn on... Or to add to your ACE count (if you desire to add to your ace count in that way).

Crestmont Park (http://www.dgcoursereview.com/course.php?id=338&mode=hi) in Bloomington IN has a hole that's 79' from short tee, and 192' from the long. I've seen people take pretty high scores, even from the short tee, because the basket is well protected, and right at the top of a steep 15' drop off, lots of people hit the basket and come rolling back down the hill on putts.

Olorin- I played that course right after I started. There were a couple long holes too, but some of those short ones were ridiculous! Like the one that ran next to the fence for the BBall court on the left, with the drop off into the trees on thee right...I think that was hole 9...might have been 8.

I wondered about listing that course here, but I don't think you can even get on the grounds without being there for an event.

agapedad,

Either they substantially changed the course after you played there, or you're thinking of a different course. There was no Basketball court with a fence, no long holes, and no field. This course is all up on a small hill in the woods at the Ridgecrest Conference Center. I wonder if you're mixing this up with the old layout of the public Black Mountain Park course down the road?

You're right, though, that you can't play there unless you're staying there. There's a gate guard who checks.

It was at the Ridgecrest Conference Center owned by Lifeway.
Yeah, they must have changed it, cause it is now 18 holes. I didn't remember any as short as you were saying, but I wasn't paying a whole lot of attention.
I just played it on August 10th.
There are actually 2 different fields you throw over now...actually 3. Some fairly long holes..I think 1 of them was even close to 400', but I can't remember for sure. Several very tight shots up the road.

Hole #6 at the "Flint YMCA" in Michigan.

30ft.!!! That's right, 30ft!

If you want a really awesome short hole check out hole 14 at Dalaiwood, Scott Papa's private course in the West sound in Washington. The course manages to be very challenging and fair despite most holes being in the mid to low 200's in their shorter positions.

Here's his own caption for the hole.
"Often the most talked about hole on the course. The standard question is "What fairway?" Well, at 130' a person has the option of throwing two 60' upshots and having a 10' putt for a par. Is the fairway small? Oh yeah! Is the hole short? Oh yeah! Has it been aced numerous times? Oh yeah! Is it easy to take a four on the shortest hole on the course? Oh yeah!"

In that picture, hole #6's basket isn't just behind that bush, its like 90-95 degrees to your left from that spot. That bush on the far left side is just a start of what the basket is behind .

I've been reading the thread and it's ridiculous how short some of those holes can get, there's just no challenge there. I realize this isn't the shortest course but I played this 9 hole'r one time on my way from college to the parents place and not only was it a overwhelmingly short course (2 holes barely over 200 and the rest between 120-150) but hole #1 was 80 ft. if I recall correctly. The old layout of Valley View in Wisconsin had one that was maybe 90' over a ravine & through a bunch of trees. That one & every other good hole they had there are gone & replaced with crappy flat nonsense. I guess vandalism & general D-bag behavior is the cause of this.

elliot park (now closed) had a few under 130
dr. lawless had a bunch, i was there one time and i remember the first three holes were 120, 130, 125, hehe, i was mad to make the drive for that, i know they had shorter ones, but what made me mad was getting 3's and 4's on some of those holes... i'm not that bad of a golfer, but trees had fallen, no fairway was really clear, i only remembered a few that had a clear sight of the basket, just poor course maintenance... with that being said, you could tell a storm had done the damage and i dont know how long it stayed that way - i was there one time - but i know the course has been redesigned, i just looked it up and all the holes have grown in length so i'm not sure what it looks like now, maybe its worth another trip to the course, the upsetting part was its a pay to play and it was the 2nd worse course i'd ever seen at the time, now i reserve judgement till i see it again

Hole # 2, Campton Hills (http://www.dgcoursereview.com/course.php?id=704&mode=ci) in St. Charles, IL. 125 ft. Elevated tee. Wide open route to the hole with the pin set slightly to the left. There is a drop-off behind the hole but there are a ton of guardian trees behind the hole to knock down a long shot. The pin is hidden from the tee, and that is about the only positive I can think of for that shot. It literally made me laugh out loud. It might not be the shortest hole out there, but it has to be in the running for the easiest.

But it is in character with the rest of the course. Six of the nine shots are less than 200' and the longest shot tops out at 223'. It's weenie-arm heaven.

Edit: D'OH! #2 isn't even the shorted hole on the course. #7 is only 111 ft. In defense of # 7, it is straight up. It's a simple tommy shot up the hill for deuce and reminded me a lot of the 98' shot from the red tee on # 10 at White Birch. It was short and relatively easy, but not in the laugh out loud kind of way that a 123' shot with an elevated tee and wide open hyzer route to the hole is.

I've driven by it and it is a square of park and you can see all 18 newish discatchers from any spot in the park. It's rediculous when the awsome course, Sinnissippi Park, in Stirling, is a mile away and could use some new baskets!

This course is a real trip! I played it this summer as a warmup for Sinnisippi. Standing at any given tee you can see at least 3 baskets. Someone spraypainted hole #s and arrows on the trees to avoid confusion. Average hole length is ~110'. I agree that the baskets would be better used elsewhere.

Lake Murray Lodge has some water in play, if I remember correctly. Also, I enjoy playing the old saucer baskets. 4 courses played/three states (with saucer baskets). Course is also kind of unique in a beachy/sandy way. Little bit of possible window breakage possibility just to scare ya a little. Sad to say that I've given a little props to two courses mentioned in this thread. But, because they were just TOO CUTE, I like this one and Nims Park better than tons of little, craptastic niners that are "more normal."

Olorin,

Just to set the record straight, Rutgers # 9 is 104 feet in length. I'm the one who measured the whole course (with a measuring wheel - not as good maybe as a laser, but what the heck). Their existing sign numbers (from god knows when) are REALLY goofy in some cases and spot on in others (go figure). People are now in the midst of "re-signing" the course (with accurate numbers).

Karl

Ps: You DO have Chimney Rock's # 5 correct (I measured that one too).

ST,

Because I'm kind of new here (<20 posts opposed to a bazillion) and didn't know I even COULD do such (or if it's in my "rights" to do so)!

I've presented the "powers that be" (at Rutgers) with the new data; they're working on updating the course (which is a LOT more important than updating some MB db). After that, maybe they'll update "other things".

There's a bunch of short holes at Peak's View Park in Lynchburg, and the shortest is 120. It's easy to deuce, possible to ace, simple to par, and bogeys happen here and there.

Young's Run (Warren, Ohio) Original Course #5 was 79 foot. One player shot an 11 in a tournament refusing not to lay-up, going strong with many bad breaks. Basket sits on a steep slope.

And that steep slope has a nice drop off behind it with a creek right behind it, now hole 5's short tee is 143 ft. 3 other short holes on the course would be:
Hole 8 (short Tee) 108ft. Straight ahead a little bit of elevation and a big hill on the left with plenty of trees and branches to tangle you up.
Hole 11 127 ft of straight with two punishing trees just to left before the basket.
Hole 14 183 ft of straight in, trees on both sides, open ceiling and a cat tail/marsh about 10ft wide and 30ft long in the middle of the fairway.

I know the course is designed for the disabled, the first time I played it, I didn't realize it - I figured maybe the first few holes were short, but it took me until about hole 8 to realize that they were all 70-120 feet and designed for blind players, but the 9 hole layout at Ashe Lake Mississippi has to be about the shortest entire course ever.

It's a cool concept for sure - I doubt that course sees much use at all for what it's designed for as it's miles from anywhere, like 20 miles to Hattiesburg MS.

I saw a visually impaired kid at Basset Creek MN with his dad, I was a little confused at first as I was trying to follow them, I didn't know my way around the course - eventually I figured out they were making up their own holes and I shouldn't be following them to play the course, but it was cool to see the kid play, his dad would walk ahead and jingle the chains to give him a sound to throw at.

Well to be fair, it was a bit longer than 90'. More like 150 but you are correct in the drop. Plus the tee was set up such that it was almost impossible to throw a RHBH. You'll see when we go back out to Pescadero to set it up...

Yep. It is awkwardly weird. I've clunked it () a few times, but no ace yet.

I whacked the first tree on the left a few rounds ago. My gf laughed so hard! I didn't. :|

At least it's a par two... I'd feel pretty stupid if I got a bogey on that...

It's still a cool hole. It's a finesse shot that I at least don't have to throw very often except on some approaches, and makes you think about elevation and things like that.

I bet it requires a measure of skill.

Back in 1995 when our course was first installed we held the record for shortest in the world at 127'. It went from hole 8 to 10 to 11 and now that we're a full 18 holes it has settled at number 13.

I don't know if this course has been mentioned yet, as I didn't scroll through all the pages, but I went to it when I was visiting relatives in the Houston area as it was fairly close. Definitely a place to work on your putter shots. Bring a Wizard and a water bottle and you're good to go. I couldn't confirm any of the measurements, but there's only one hole showing over 150 ft. I see that people have posted shorter holes, but as a total course, this one has to be up there.

I made a road trip to Springfield IL today. We played both The North and South courses at Lincoln Park. They seem to be redesigning the courses for the upcoming tournament, because the hole I'm talking about does not appear in any of the media or hole info on this site. But anyway...

Hole 3 (I think it was the south course? This course is very poorly marked). There was no tee sign, only a post marking the tee pad. It cant have been more than 60'.

It was a fun hole though. I don't think that they are allowed to remove trees at this park, so we are talking virgin woods. Open for about 20' then you have to choose which 2' gap you are going to hit. Then the basket is on an up hill slop.

There were 4 of us and we took one bird (tree love), two pars and a bogus. The hardest 60' I've played.

Can we count The Blockhouse (formerly The Grange) Tiki course? Most of the 18 holes are under 100', and it is such a fun and unique course to play. The hole lengths are actually measured in inches on all of the tee signs.

I mentioned that course at the beginning of this thread. Its a good course to work on your approach game.

The people that live there don't even know what the baskets or for. I took my wife there to get her into disc golf, and some kids were use the #3 basket to hold a target for archery practice.

I played another really short one the other day. I give you Hole 4 Northwestern High School, Rock Hill, SC. The sign says 85 feet, but I think they got the tape wrapped around a tree or two to get that measurement, cause it didn't seem that long to me. I putted from the tee.

What is the shortest hole you have ever played.

I have found some in the 130's, but I can not recall any holes under 100ft.

Playing at least once a week like religion for a couple of years now and still no ace. I am getting close to scratch play (moving backwards due to re-learning to drive BH) and haven't even metaled yet. I read a lot of guys here with numerous aces...

Then I see this thread and now I know why.

I think if I played pitch and putts and threw one in, I would be happy but quiet about it.

Not being a "man" it would be a empty thing.

Like ball golf, in my lifetime, if I nail one or two, I am good. And my level of play is good.

When it is hot and (100 + degrees here for 100 + days) I am going through the motions, I give up and work on new things. May even try rollers one day (eff carts)

Where was I going with this, oh.

Short courses not my idea of rel disc golf. Fun but not a high level of play.

It is important to keep...

Nevermind.

Sadjo
