View Full Version : Sims Park - Euclid, OH -- any regulars that can shed some light on course changes?

I was out at the Sims Park Euclid Ohio course today playing a round with my Dad. Last time was there we scrutinized the map, because the basket for hole 18 had been changed to read "20". But there were no tee pads or markers for holes 19 or 20. Or baskets for that matter.

The kiosk map showed 2 new holes which I thought we had missed. I updated the course page to reflect this, thinking I missed the baskets somehow.

Back out there today, I made a point to find the 2 new baskets but it seems there are only temprary dirt-patch tees and no baskets for hole 19 & 20. Additionally, we discovered a hole 21, hidden back over by hole #1. This hole had a concrete tee pad, but the (temporary) tee sign read #19. I navigated back to the actual basket (what a tough hole that will be) and the basket had a #2 on it, but looked like there was room for another number (i.e. 21). It looked like it used to read 19 on it.

My guess is that this was a 19th hole that I was never aware of, and since installing it they decided to install 2 more holes out near the main area of the back nine and rename this one.

The map on the kiosk I am guessing is a planning map, and not a course map. At least it's not final on the actual course, since there are no baskets for 19 & 20, and the tees are just dirt with a 4x4 block of wood at the front.

Any Sims Park regualrs out there who know what the scoop is? I am thinking I should edit the course back to 18 holes and make a note that holes 19-21 are under construction. At least until we know more.

Thoughts from other members? Tim?

No idea on this one. I was there but didn't get to play, it was raining the one time I was near by and I was pressed for time the second time I was in the area. PDGA has it listed as 19 (has for a while now) and one score is recorded for 19 holes. So 19 could be a safe bet but hopefully someone who is in the loop could shed some more light on this.

There are definitely 19 baskets installed, so perhaps modfying the course for 19 holes as you said would be best.

I posted a info request over at ohiodiscgolf.org to see if perhaps any locals on that site had some insight.

I'll update the course to 19 holes and mention the map confusion in the course conditions for now.

A little searching brought up this forum discussion (http://myforum.saucershack.com/user/Discussion.aspx?id=123215):

They were there on the ninth [of September 2008]. Most likely [the baskets were removed] due to complaints. The deal was we get the baskets in 2 weeks before the tournament and for the tournament. If people complained, we had to take them out and bring them every Monday for scrambles.

Sound slike they tried to expand and the locals weren't having it.
