Going on a road trip to play Flip City in a couple weeks and want to hit up one of the other nearby courses. I'm looking at the Leviathan course or one of the three courses at Mason County Park. I will only have time to play ONE. Thoughts?

I'd say Mason County - Beast or, if you can go a little farther north, Hickory Hills.
If you're coming to Michigan though, especially northern Michigan, I'd get here soon. Winter is already starting to set in.

Looks like Hickory Hills is about 3 hours from Flip City, so that's gonna be a bit outside my range (I'm coming from Detroit, ~4 hours, so it's more of a day-trip, or mini-roadtrip if you will). Leviathan and Mason are about a half hour from Flip. Went to Flip City earlier this summer and was going to play one of those other courses but Flip was so cool we decided to play there all day instead of hitting one of the others. Looks like we may give the beast a try this time around.

I just played all of them this weekend (Flip City, all the Mason County Parks, Leviathan, and Whitehall). My order would be Flip, Leviathan (from the longs), Goliath, Beauty, Beast, Whitehall.

Wow, I didn't realize it was that long of a drive. Hell, Hickory Hills is only 2 hours and 45 minutes from Grand Rapids. I guess it all depends on what road you're taking... 131 is faster than 31.
Anyway, you'll have a good time at Mason County. It's a nice park. If you decide to play beauty instead of beast, you still have to climb the hill and play beast #1 just for the view.

The definitive list:
Play Flip first and foremost. Maybe twice if time permits.
Next go down the street about 20 miles and play Branstrom in Fremont.
Hit up the Ludington Courses: Beast, Beauty, Goliath. Don't neglect playing Goliath, some outstanding sig holes.
Play Leviathan long for a very humbling and supreme challenge experience.
If the north calls you hit up Hickory Hills in TC, and if time permits Myles Kimmerly just to the west.
When on old 31( Pere Marquette Road) stop into the Frontier right on OM river for some disc golf needs and the best micro brew beer selection that side of the state. Tell em' DGCR sent ya.

I just Played Hickory Hills again today. That's the course that got me hooked. Played my first round there with my kids 6 years ago. I've got to play all over the U.S and the Michigan courses are by far my favorites. Try and make sometime in the future to get up to TC and play, It will be worth the trip.

Final bump.
I'm playing Flip tomorrow and need to decide between Leviathan, Beast, or Branstrom. Any final thoughts?
Thanks

Oh without a doubt do the Mason County Parks. Do Beast, then Beauty, then Goliath. All within the same park.
It's post Labor Day so you will have to use the Lakeshore Drive lot. Walk up the road and start at six.
Some tricky things to remember on Beast.
Holes A&B are to the left and up the hill of basket 4. When you are done with B go back to the basket of four and there is tee 5.
Hole C is down the hill to the left of Basket six and is right on the side of Lakeshore Drive by where you parked.
Holes D,E,F are up the small hill to the left of basket 14.
There are signs for all of this, but some can easily be walked by.
ENJOY!

Flip is definitely awesome, I played there this past August and wanted to make it out one more time this year. But we didn't make it out after all. Monday night we decided at the last second that weather looked a little nicer down south. So, tuesday morning we drove from Detroit to Kentucky and played Idlewild and Lincoln Ridge. Two amazing courses, and one of the nicest days I've seen in a while (MI weather has been crap for pretty much the whole year). Will definitely be making it back to both of those courses and Flip in the spring.
