I noticed that Flip City got another 5 review today!

But I was wondering how Flip City went from having 16 reviews with a 4.88 rating to now having 17 reviews with a 4.88 rating? does a 5 rating not even affect .01 of the rating? Is there a magical blocker thats stopping flip city from surpassing Idlewild, lol, im jus playin, but for real I was wondering about it because I remember looking at the rating a couple days ago and it said 4.88 then also, lemme know

If you do the math, the average is the same. It will need more favorable reviews to go up another .01.

I do like the idea of the magical blocker just to bug people that are all about where a random course is on the top 10 list though...

Math...

13 "5", 2 "4.5" & 1 "4"=78 pts/16 reviews or 4.875

14 "5", 2 "4.5" & 1 "4"=83 pts/17 reviews or 4.882

Sometimes math does that to us. Damn numbers.

also, tim would know this, but the website might be set on a timer so as not to update everything immediately (so the servers don't overload). i don't know for sure.

flip city is at 4.88, idlewild is at 4.91. in order for flip city to pass idlewild it would have to receive 7 more reviews all at a solid five discs. or people would have to go back and edit there old review. being from michigan i'm rooting for flip city, i can say that from the people talking about it and the pictures i see i'll make a trip down to play it as soon as i'm able.

The prob with the Flip rating now is that the earlier reviewers played there before this years addition of the awesome elongated cement tees. It was brought up in most of their cons. You can't have some one go back and re-review it if they haven't played on the course since. Kind of a catch 22 between fairness and truth and the reality of Flip being something special above and beyond.

The only thing that could make Flip City better is if they handed out bags of gold coins at the end of every round, am I right or am I right? ;)

There may be a small unexpected backlash to all of the hype over Flip City and Idlewild. Y'all have created such an expectation of "Heaven on Earth" that it may be hard to live up to, so it's easy to be disappointed. This has happened to me before. I'm sure it's a great course, though, and I'd love to play it.

Well there seems to be a lot more Flip City zealots.. far more than Idlewild people which I can't really say I've seen any of. I don't recall seeing anybody pushing for Idlewild to be at the top, "why didn't you rate Idlewild a 5?", etc. like I have for Flip City.

It's nice that people feel that strongly about the course but like Olorin said, you could be setting false expectations which will result in disappointment for some.

yeah, the false expectations is tricky. I actually wrote that in my review. If I TRIED to describe all the little details and how it makes you feel I would be diluting how someone else might feel. If someone were to go there and be expecting immaculate ball like fairways (as what English sounds like) they will be disappointed. If you go there with an open mind and reach back to when you first started to disc golf and what that feeling is like...well, this is THAT place. More intangibles than can ever be detailed or described.

So now I just simply say...you must go and judge for yourself...simple as that.

As for the gold coins at the end of the round, well, Bill quit doing that in '94 and now ops for sitting around a campfire post round and handing you a cold beer.

Math is my weak point, not english or spelling. When i'm online I just dont really care how sloppy I write or how bad I spell. I make it out good enough for you to know what i'm talking about, so thats all I really care about. It's just alot easier and quicker to write sloppy in my opinion. You guys should try it sometime!

GO Flip City!!!!!

Boo Idlewild!!!!!

Congratulations to Flip City for finally achieving their dream of being #1! I guess the recent 4.5 for Idlewild brought it down just enough.

Never played Flip City, but I kind of want to now - just to see if it is on par with Idlewild...

You know the fact that there is a lively debate on which couse is better pretty much negates the purpose of reviewing. People will give artificially high or low scores so their home course will be number one. Oh sure we can all be REALLY unbiased....right? So how many folks reregisted from work under a different IP address and email address to pump up their favorite course?

bazkitcase5

that is hopefully where the trusted reviewers come in, so you know which reviews are hopefully the more accurate ones

after all, the purpose of this site is to help people learn as much as possible about potential new courses to play before they travel to play them - if people feel the need to 'pump up' their favorite courses that bad, then so be it, they are only fooling themselves, but that is not the goal of the site and I think Tim has done a great job with the overall goal

chances are, over rating your home courses will likely disappoint traveling players who play it, which might increase the chance that those traveling players will rate the course lower than normal

I think in regards from everything I have read, and have heard from players who have played most of DGCR's top ten, that it is pretty right on with what courses should be in the top ten. Don't think a lot of courses with 10+ reviews on this site are gonna make it with a home course over-rated bias review here and there.

nothing is unbiased. just take what you want from the reviews.
