Driving from Dallas to Corpus Christi this Fri-Sat for a fishing trip Sat night. Staying in Austin Friday night and want to play the best Austin course Saturday morning. What course should I play and why?
My favorites in DFW area are Lewisville Lake and I play Greenbelt the most.

Pease Park would be my pick. It doesn't have the water hazards that Greenbelt has but it's nice. Alot of locals play it. Its like a Texas version of La Mirada to me. It just has that fun factor.
If you had the time further south, Twin Parks country club or Circle R ranch but both are outside of Austin. But if you catch them running and looking there best, they are the best in the area that I have played.

If you're into long and challenging courses, check out Circle C (Slaughter Creek). It's the only course that I've played that's actually IN Austin, except for Zilker which I though sucked.

Circle R Ranch in Wimberly is one of the best places I've ever played, but it's at least half and hour outside Austin. If you have time for it, I highly recommend it...its secluded, extremely scenic, and both courses (Meadow and Hill) are a great challenge!

Thanks guys, anyone else have suggestions? Anything else really good between Austin and San Antonio? My buddy and I want to play Saturday morning before we really hit the road to Corpus....

Also I heard the 'largest disc golf store in Texas' is somewhere in Austin. Where might that be? Is it worth going over there and checking it out? Maybe a good course by it? I dont really need to buy discs, but thought it might be something else to check out while in the area...

You're talking about DiscNation.com's brick and mortar store...awesome litt shop! It's actually right down the road from 2 courses: Seawright and Circle C. Here's their page with directions to the shop from both courses, and their hours, phone number, etc : DiscNation.com (http://www.discnation.com/pages.php?pageid=13)

Hope you enjoy your trip!

Steeplechase park is another course near austin that is a fun course. It is also one of the nicer courses in the area and just 12 miles south from discnation in Kyle.

So we ended up going to Slaughter Creek/Circle C park while in Austin. Overall this was a great course for us to play while visiting Austin The terrain definitely made me feel like I was in Austin and not in DFW. Although the white rocks all around made it difficult at times to find a white disc! But we made it through the course without losing anything and no guidance. I was a little discouraged at first because the park was FULL of soccer games going on. But it turned out great because the whole course is on the perimeter of the park and you never see any of the soccer fields once you get started. Although you get to hear parents screaming at their kids, which is a little entertaining... Look for my full review soon on this park. Thanks to all that gave recommendations. We went to Slaughter because it was the closest one to where we were staying that was recommended by you guys.

Too bad you missed Circle R.

I find Circle C to be grueling.

So how did you do on Circle C? I'm just curious because I play there once or twice a week and rarely get to see how others fare. It is a tough course and yes you have to leave the white discs in the bag.

I played Circle C for the first time last week. It's the first 21 holer I've ever played and the most difficult course I've ever played (Unless I was just having a bad day). Too many cedars for my taste but I had fun and will play it again.

Does anyone know what the distance is on Hole 21 at Circle C? It feels longer than the 1000 footers that I'm use to playing at Wilco and Old Settlers.

Is that the hole that plays like a giant U-turn (almost)...where the tee-shot is a low ceiling hyzer that opens up to a small field...then the basket is at the end of an alley cut through some large trees on the opposite side of the field? Think there was even a small creek in play too.

It's been a few years since I've played Circle C, but whatever hole it is I just described has to be one of the toughest and most memorable I've ever played.

That's the one. I threw two 300'ish throws and then I assumed the basket had been stolen so I just picked up my disc and started walking to find my car. I found the basket another 800'-1000' away in some trees.

I love holes like that...ones that incorporate multiple elements (low ceiling, open field, tight alley, water, etc).

I believe Circle C was the course that caused my girlfriend to NEVER trust me when I say "If you'll go play with me today, I'll make sure we don't play a really hard course" :D

We had 3 players in our group. One was a beginer. My buddy and I tied at +8 so we had to settle our bet with a friendly game of P-I-G afterwards to see who buys lunch that day.....

I was happy with my score for never playing there before.

Did you guys play all of the holes as par 3's? If so + 8 is a really good score, especially considering that at least 3 of the holes are physically impossible to reach in less than 4 shots. Hole 21 being the most brutal of the bunch. I consider a 5 on hole 21 to be a birdie.I usually end up between 75 and 80 total score.

Im with discinator on that, a +8 on par 3s for all (or a 62) is really good. And yes that hole 21 has got to be a par 6. Ive always wondered if you could tomahawk straight to the left and reach the hole, instead of taking the normal U-turn route, but im not daring enough to try and i don't think I have that kind of distance on a tomahawk.

p.s. Why is the course listed as slaughter creek metro park especially since everyone i know and most everyone in texas calls it Circle C and it is located in the Circle C neighborhood??? I didn't know it was called anything but Circle C til I saw it listed here as slaughter creek metro park.

I have tried a tomahawk on my second shot and almost got to the opening of the tunnel to the hole. I don't think it is possible unless you've got an insane tomahawk. I play the long tees and from back there it would be like 800' just to get to the opening.
