What is the purpose of the discraft FLX plastic?

I've been thinking about getting a FLX Challenger in the hopes that it will stick slightly better than my CryZtal or Pro-D. Anyone have experience putting with FLX?

I use an FLX Challenger. One of the reasons I went to it was its ability to stick to the chains better. But be patient until it breaks in. Which does not take a real long time. It may bounce off the chains a little until then because it is springy when new.

FLX is great for cold winter weather as plastics get harder, and also heavily wooded courses where you don't want your shot to go flying off a tree too far off the fairway, and also spike hyzers that you don't want to roll.
I've not seen FLX in a putter personally, but I love the Soft X plastic for sticking putts.

What is the purpose of the discraft FLX plastic?
to be as flimsy as a tortilla.

I love the FLX plastic....on a driver, and I'm sure this isn't scientific or anything, but it seems to handle wind better for whatever reason and it's very durable. I've had some bad shots that would have torn chunks out of any other plastic, including ESP or Star, and there's barely a mark on it.
I wish Innova would come up with their own version so I could switch over my Viper's at least....notorious for hittng trees because I only throw them when I need huge hyzers....

What is the purpose of the discraft FLX plastic?
The purpose is to put a little grip onto ESP plastic. Think of it as ESP but with the grip of Pro-D. It remains gripable when wet where ESP would become slippery. Wear seems to be identical to ESP. Only in one case (the XL) does Discraft change the stability rating between ESP and FLX.
A secondary purpose is to be slightly flexible. This way if it smacks a tree it has some give. Contrary to what some people say, I have never held one that is "floppy". All felt almost identical to ESP.
I like FLX and give it the nod over ESP given the choice of the two.

I have a Drone ESP/FLX. Bounces/skips less than Elite Z. Similar grip to ESP, but a bit more flexible.

FLX plastics has all sorts of uses that you may or may not know about.
I live in the pacific northwest (20 miles north of Seattle) and it rains here as people all know expecially this time of year. Even on days when it's sunny and hot the ground can be wet and the FLX plastic will hardly ever slip out when it's wet. When it gets to be the colder part of the year these disc do not "freeze up" and become super stiff like almost anything else, so this is the time of year when I have a bag full of FLX plastic, seriously 15-20 discs all FLX.
It's not like trying to throw a Blowfly or something, they never get "floppy" in fact when other discs left in the heat of a car get "floppy" these usually don't. My main putter is a FLX Challenger that is beat in very hard, I also carry a newer one that I use for upshots as it is a little more overstable and doesn't stick in the chains as well.
FLX discs also take punishment from trees and other things discs hit while on the course very well, better than ESP and about on par with Z plastic amazingly. When these things take a tree hit they "FLX" to absorb the impact, which keeps the disc from warping/tacoing and also the disc doesn't get cuts in the disc that you have to clip off with a finger nail clipper and sand down with sandpaper. Also after they hit a tree they don't go flying way offline, they usually hit the tree and stop. When driving these discs don't seem to skip as much which could be a good thing or a bad thing depending on the situation, where I live there is too much brush to make anything skip anyway.

I also like the Viper and go through them on a regular bases. The DX just does not last long. I have just recently purchased a Discraft Flash in Elite Z. So far it flies nearly identical to the Viper but with more distance.

FLX is some tough plastic! I have been playing a lot with my FLX Buzzz and really not even a scratch on it. Hit a few trees full speed and still straight as can be. Some crazy plastic that is.

My FLX Surge (I've only had it since the summer) is super floppy compared to my ESPs. I just could not get a consistent release from it and had to put it away. It's coming back out now that the temps are dropping for a second chance. I'm hoping that I'll get to know it well enough that it might be able to stay in my bag when them temps start rising again (I doubt it unfortunately). It feels better than the ESP, which I adore.
By contrast, my FLX Drone is completely firm and feels closer to ESP than the FLX plastic of my Surge.

I too have a FLX drone and it is the skippiest (word?) disc I own

I think the drone itself is just a skippy disc regardless of plastic. I think FLX may absorb some of the impact, but with a disc like the Drone I don't think it affects it much. Throw that thing low and with some hyzer and watch it skip forever...

Pro D = Crappier DX
Elite X = stiffer, better Pro
Elite Z = Champion
ESP = Star
FLX = Innova hasn't made it, just a flexible grippier ESP

Don't forget cryztal. Oh and ESP is better than star due to color choice

Drone is "skippy" in and of itself. I have a FLX and an Elite Z. The Z will skip a mile, the FLX not quite so much. FLX version is nice for higher hyzers and spike hyzers as it won't bounce so much, especially on harder ground, rocks, etc.

I have a few FLX discs, specifically 2 Buzz. I have noticed that there are variations in the plastic, as far as "floppiness" goes. One Buzz is really flexible and gummy, and my other is closer to ESP in feel only slightly more gripper and softer. I have felt some "floppy" FLX discs before, but they are not all like that. FWIW, I really like the FLX plastic and also wish Innova made a competitive plastic.

I love the FLX plastic. I use it with Avenger, Buzzz, Drone, Avenger SS, and hope to get the XL and Surge at some point in FLX.

flx is definitely my favorite. Durable, Grippy, just an amazing feel. Here's my flx buzzz and after two years it's just getting to the point where I have to retire it because it's getting too filppy. No gouges or anything on the edges because the flx plastic is just so awesome :)

flx imo is a little bit grippier than esp and a lot more flexible. playing winter it has nice feel and my challenger sticks nicely to the chains after being broken in.
