I got a call from my preacher yesterday telling me that his son is in the Cub Scouts. One of the Merit Badges that he can earn, believe it or not, is for Disc Golf. He wants me to teach him and his son to play and help his son get the badge. I thought that was really cool!

The first Birdshot tournament (Dec '07) was at First Colony Aquatic Center and had a whole troop of cub scouts there to get their badges. Since they only played the morning round that's probably the most DNF's you'll see at a tourney.

What a great addition to boy scouts - already an awesome organization. I'm not a scout, but I'd love to earn a disc golf merit badge. I'd sew it onto the strap of my bag.

That is a great way to move the sport ahead and help give it a more positive image!

I have friends kids in the scouts, I will have to take them all out and play, but they better cough up an extra badge :)

http://www.usscouts.org/advance/cubscout/sports/ultimate.asp Here is a link explaining what they need to do to get the pin for disc golf. I know a few of the courses in missouri were part of scout projects. They did things like making tee signs, and clearing out fairways. The scouts are sure to become a great component of the sports future.

That's cool the scouts are into the sport.
Locally, well, twenty miles away in Kenyon, MN a kid/teenager designed-proposed-and installed with parks dept approval a 9 hole course with Discatchers for his Eagle Scout badge.

Awesome!

That's awesome, when I was a young'n I was in the scouts for about a year then quit. Mainly because we never did anything as totally sweet as play disc golf in my troop

There are two seperate courses in my area that have bridges with little plaques on them displaying which troop built and donated the bridge. Also my buddy's grade school children, 9 and 11, are now playing disc golf in their gym class...mainstream is looming...

Chimney Rock DGC in Somerville, New Jersey was designed by an Eagle scout as his eagle scout project. I'm sure there are other courses around the country that have been designed by Scouts.

our new, and currently only, course was done for an eagle scout project. Its starting a grassroots organization and were already making plans for an 18 hole course, quite likely to be approved by the city if we can get some outside funding and put in
