I recently played a course that I hadn’t played in several years.

The first time I played this course was in 2005 or 2006. At the time I would say the course was (by my scale) either 3.5 or 4 stars. I felt that the course design was challenging and beautiful, they utilized the elevation changes in many different ways, and I ended the round of golf immediately wanting to play another round. The only drawbacks that I can think of would be that it is quite a hike to finish the course so if you are out of shape it could be hard on you. And the T boxes are natural.

I just went and played this course again last weekend. So much has changed. Holes 1-7 are the same and I find no complaints here, even though they did move the T pad location to a different location. I think this was done so as to be out of the way for non Disc golf players. The original location was right off the path from the ski lift to the small restaurant on top of the hill. But holes 8-11 have been altered quite a bit. The ski resort has built a warming cabin near these holes and have home sites listed for sale. The holes are still in the same vicinity as they were but have been moved slightly and now feel like they were put in a “this spot is as good as any” location. Holes 12 and 13 are the same as I remember them, but the fairways for holes 14 and 15 are now cluttered with logs and brush piles. And it doesn’t look like they have only been there for a short time. Some of the piles looked like they had been there for over a year or two.

With how the course stands now I’ve changed my rating of the course to a 2. I’ll go back again next year I guess and play again. If the logs and brush piles have been removed I’ll re-evaluate the rating again. I don’t see how they can fix holes 9-11 though.

How would this affect your rating of a course? I ask this because I noticed that one or two of the reviews of this course are fairly recent, one within the last month, and they ranked the course a 4.5

The course I’m referring to is the Boyne Mountain course (http://www.dgcoursereview.com/course.php?id=1035) in Boyne Falls Michigan.

You can only rate a coures in the condition it is in when you play it. That's my opinion so of course all those factors would be in play. If you play a course often and there are some temp issues you might not choose to rate the course that day. A course's rating can certainly change as conditions and/or permanent changes occur.

I had that happen to me when I played Seneca Creek State Park in Maryland. I played it while it was under construction and really disliked the course, but I couldnt bring myself to review it under such bad circumstances, so I put it off until I can get back and play the course post-construction.
If the problems are temporary and you can get back and play it after they have been repaired, Id say review it then. But if the problems arent going away, then by all means review it as it is.
