I had an idea, but I'm not sure if this already happens. In the NBA they have a skills challenge which is how well and efficiently they can perform the basics. The players must dribble around obstacles, shoot a few baskets from the perimeter, and perform bounce and chest passes through vertical rings. The fastest to successfully do all of those things, wins.

Info from: http://probasketball.about.com/od/nbahistory/a/skillschallenge.htm.

But I was wondering if they did this in disc golf. They could drive and get the disc so far from the basket to move on to the next part, then do approach shot getting the disc even closer and when they get the disc close enough move on, and make putts from different spots, and time ends when they sink the putts. I know disc golf not about speed but this might be fun.

This could be like a round robin tournament or something.

Let me know what you think.

They do have this <or did>, it was a part of the worlds a year or two back, and we also had this at our world's biggest disc golf weekend about 2 years back. There should be info on it at PDGA <when the website is completely back up anyway>.

i've participated in two types of contests. not really part of any group, it was just a bunch of friends having a contest.

contest one was driving. you were scored on two parts. you threw 4 drives back to back and left them laying on the ground. your score was your average distance modified by how large your grouping was. basically it was a distance competition where you needed some consistency.

the second was kind of fun. we set two poles 20' apart about 100' out. each person took a turn at "splitting the poles". if you missed, you were out. once everyone had a turn the poles got moved closer together and everyone left goes again. once the poles got to about 4' apart we started moving them back farther.

another side thing that i did once with my brother and son was a game of pig. just like basketball only on a green. that was fun.

A guy in our town put on a skills competition sometime back in February. It had contests like putting over and obstacle, putting from X distances, putting from a knee, long drive, accurate drive, CTPs, etc. I looked for the whole list but it was unfortunately lost when the old HFDS message board crashed.

I think this type of competition would be a really cool way just to hang out with other disc golfers, chill and just have fun!
