The lateset from NY............

We had another meeting tonight with some of the Parks Directors to show them my presentation. They loved it and think it is a great idea. I have an appointment with an Arborist on Thursday to walk through the course to make sure we do not remove any trees that would hurt the environment. That way we have proof when we say that our course design will not negatively impact the environment. We are on the agenda for a council committee meeting on December 7th and then the proposal would be voted on at the Schenectady City Council Meeting on December 14th. We already have a couple of council members and Brian Stratton on board.

Looks like we could be playing by next spring if all goes well!

I walked through the course with the Arborist today (whose daughter happens to be in my class). He said he is going to do all of the work of clearing saplings and brush and even some large trees that were dead or dying for us this winter. We were looking for confirmation that we weren't going to hurt the environment, and instead we got all of the hard work done for us. He was more than cool with the idea. Its nice when you meet good people who are willing to help! Almost too good to be true.

Good News from Schenectady!

Everything went well and we got unanimous approval from the Council members. We even had the Director of Parks and Recreation answering questions for us. They moved to give us appproval for developing a course and to start fundraising. As of right now, we are a go and do not even need to go next Monday, where we will be on the consent agenda. The Gazette was there and they will probably be contacting us for a story. The only questions that may arise are if any of the public starts to make noise about not wanting it. If I hear of that, then we can bring a group of people to show support.

I want to thank everybody for all of the help so far. If anybody wants to walk/play the proposed course, please let me know. I want as much input as possible before we pour the concrete.

Looks like we'll have a new course in the capital area.............. Great for me cause it's 5 minutes from work and on the way home.

CONGRATS!!!!!
I miss living in Saratoga. Yeah, looking at the maps, there isn't much in way of DG there except Hyzer.

SPAC would be a cool place, but how about back behind Skidmore in those rolling trails? And why aren't there any great courses around all the ski hills in the Adirondacks? Gore would make for one bad ass course during the summer.

...or how about a course on the Saratoga Battlefield? Would that be too much to ask?:D

Sweet. Hope to see you there next summer if I make back to Hadley to see the folks. Is the Blue Ribbon Diner still open? I love their cheesecake. Mmmm... Anyone know the status or future of Hyzer creek? Last I saw, it was for sale.

City Council meeting agenda (http://www.cityofschenectady.com/pdf/citycouncil/12_14_09_Agenda.pdf) Scroll down to #8

As for Hyzer, it's not going anywhere........ the owner was shopping it around to see what he could get for it. The highest bid was not enough for him to sell and he will only sell to a buyer that agrees to keep the course in place.

The Blue Ribbon is still there........ had breakfast there a few months back with my boss.

Our Discs are in and we have bumper stickers coming in a couple of days. 25 dollar donation and you get a disc (beast, leopard, roc, or aviar). Maybe 2 dollars for a bumper sticker. We will probably order the baskets mid February and start asap in March.

While we were finishing up on #11, we heard 3-4 wild crashing noises coming from the direction of hole 15(on the other side of the lake).

This post may be out of place, but I was wondering if anyone can use the course, or if it's for members only? I was out with my son the other evening and saw the #17 basket and was so thrilled! I didn't even know a course was being put in the park. I've never played before but have always had an interest, and with the park a block from my home, it's awfuly convenient :) I just didn't want to get in anyones way...

Welcome aboard too, if you need help figuring out what to buy to play just let us know!

Currently there is 12 baskets in place and two tees for each hole. Hole #1 is by the NE corner of Courtside Lane and Central Parkway. Only the baskets are numbered and navigation is a bit difficult because 4-9 are not installed.

My name is Jeff and you'll most likely see me out there getting some putting practice in at lunchtime at #11 by the fenced-in dog park.
