pretty positive it's an 18 holer. BUT also knowing the way this area players/designers are I wouldn't be surprised to see 24.
That park has TONS of potential above and beyond what a city park normally offers.

OHHHHHHHHH SNAAAAAPPPPPPPP you can play a round of disc golf, then climb down the hill and be homeless or catch a walleye in the river. Or a steelhead! But anyways, who do you think will be the first one to review it? I always knew that sooner or later milwaukee would have one of those courses where you don't want to be alone there around the time it gets dark.

That part of Milwaukee isn't the worst. Dineen Park is in a shadier part of town for sure & Dretzka is in fairly safe territory. I'll definitely play Estabrook when it opens... you're not too far from Art Smart's Dart Mart from there either, so you can scope out some discs before / after a round.

talk about gentrification.
Now if only some 8k towns between milwaukee and madison would grow some huevos and plant some championship caliber disc golf courses

Call it gentrification if you want, fine by me, but i don't do bad things to people, and sometimes people do bad things to me, or to my friends. Ive spent plenty of time fishing at estabrook and while it's not as bad as west of 43, it still really isn't all that cool. I will be playing the course and i will be glad that it is there, i'm just saying i hear a lot of crazy stories on here about courses in larger cities and now we will have our own stories.
As far as 8k towns putting courses in, I just hope they don't go asking New Berlin how the experience went for them.

Look what happens when I go away for a weekend . . . we get a new course. I bet I will come back from Florida in January and we will have 5 more approved designs and installation will begin with the first thaw!!! I will have to go look at that property . . . I am not sure where it is even, time to hit google earth right now!

Hopefully the designers don't take the easy and lazy way out and squander the potential of the woods and terrain of Estabrook! It has big potential.

I assume this is Mark's territory since it is a county park, but I do not know who will be involved in the design.

Shark does pretty good, soild designs. I think he's a bit old school - too many classical wide open greens, appealing to the masses, rather than the elite-seekers, maybe a bit apprehensive to really push that envelope. But then again, it's probably some real tight reigns imposed by Milwaukee County personnel and not what he'd do with complete control. I'd bet it is TOUGH to work with a large political department in that city!

Mark posted on GLDGC that construction of pads and pins placements are scheduled to start in the Spring. That's all we know for now.

I haven't lived in Milwaukee for about 6 years, but I used to live on the east side off of Humboldt and Capital...I really don't think a course at Estabrook will be bad at all....but then again, it is Milwaukee, so I could be wrong.
By New Berlin, i assume you're talking about Valley View...I was home last summer and they had totally changed that course from the one I remember...is it still there? Are the residents still complaining? Never have I been harrassed by so many cops, so many times, while playing disc then I have at Valley View.....

There is a fundraiser for this course being held at Dretzka Winter course supposedly to be held on February 20th (saturday). If you want to help make it a reality come play the fundraiser to raise some money for the course. I will update this when I hear more details.

Yes, VV is still there and I finally played it last summer and thought it was a great technical course. Looking forward to playing it again a few times this year but will get there REAL early on a weekend to beat the crowds....

Play it now, well not now now because there are probably tons of sledders there, but in the winter it is nice because there are so few people there. Just make people aware of your presence on 1, 15, and 18 so you dont hit anyone.

Thanks, I was not sure if the course was even open. Wish I could be there for the course fundraiser but i'll be out of town.

Since you cant make the fundraiser you could certainly come out and join in one of the work days. I plan on being there for sure for a work day, since I have volunteered a lot of my tools and wheelbarrows for that type of work. Never been taken up on the offer yet, but this time I am sure I will be.

Glad to hear it's still there...I learned how to play on that course:)
Although, it's a shame that you didn't see it a few years back when the holes went deeper into the woods...a couple of my old favorite holes are gone now...still a nice little course though...
I always thought the greater Milwaukee area should have more courses....especially out in Waukesha....nice to see a course in the city though!

Waukesha does need some courses, unfortunately the county parks people dont seem to be for it. I knew I should have taken that county parks job back in the day I could have been the driving force behind getting courses in the awesome Waukesha County Parks!

Being a resident of Waukesha, I am also curious why there are no courses in Waukesha. While driving to Milwaukee, New Berlin, Mukwonago, Wales, or Sussex is not a big deal, a true HOME course would be awesome.
Can't wait to try out Estabrook this summer!

The tees have been painted and the hole positions have been staked out for this course. Mark Peterson put two posts about this on the GLDC website. http://www.pdga.com/discussion/showthread.php?t=33777
I went out at lunch and played 3-6 and 15-17, seems like it should be short, technical and fun. It's set mainly in a moderately wooded park. Nothing like the tunnel shots you get at Brown Deer or Dretzka, but plenty of trees around that should make it challenging enough, especially for a hack like me. Plays along side the road so errant shots could easily hit cars. The window through the trees on #5 was very narrow. Can't wait for this one to open, a three minute drive from work. Might go out with some portable baskets later this week and play it again.
Also, Dretzka and Brown Deer open next Tuesday, the 27th, can't wait to have the full arsenal of courses back in the Milwaukee area!

Did a walk through of the entire course today. Yesterday I thought the tee for #6 was the pin for #5, so the opening isn't nearly as tight as I thought it was. Several of the holes have their baskets tucked into the woods - some shallow, some a bit deeper. 9-11 are set away from the other holes along a soccer field and back by the river. I liked those holes the best on the course though there's a long walk between 11 and 12. A few of the holes are probably in the 250-280 range for the long pin position but most are around 175-225, those are purely guesses. Every hole had two pin positions, some gave variery to the hole, others just made it a bit longer.

no baskets yet, a couple of workdays will be upcoming, teepads will not be poured initially either to make sure the layout is ok after it gets some play

I saw a sign at Mojo that said baskets should be in by Estabrook by May 1st. Not sure where Peter got that information, I forgot to ask him about it. They still have to drive the basket footers into the ground, not sure how long that takes. Mark Peterson mentions needing 160 pounds of concrete for each pin - and there's 36 pins - that just sounds time consuming so I think May 1st is a bit optimistic.
There's also a lot of trimming work that needs to be done.

Just so you know Brown Deer and Dretzka are already open. Your signature is a little dated.
Estabrook is not quite open yet, nor does it have a definite open date, sleeves and baskets need to be installed but a lot of work (cleanup and cutdown) was accomplished this weekend at the workday apparently. Tees will not be put in for at least 1 year to see if the layout plays allright. If tees need to be moved, they will not have installed concrete where it would be wasted.
Just be patient and it should be open soon.

Another workday this sunday I believe to finish putting in the pins, tee signs and other stuff, but apparently all of the trimming and cutting of buckthorn is done.
On another note there is a nother new course opening in SE wisconsin at Fox River Park in Silver Lake. There is an existing 9 hole easy course there right now but an additional 18 holes are being installed and the grand opening is on Saturday 22nd. They are hosting a grand opening tournament starting at noon. Not sure of cost, but it isnt going to be a real competetive thing, just to open the course.
I will be adding all of the info to the site as a new course in the next week or so, but for now I added it to the existing courses page so those that had their eyes on this course will have some notification.
Oh and by the way . . . bring your a game it is going to be tough!!!! concrete tees installed and dual pins on every hole.

Great news on both fronts! Thanks for the updates.
I tried to make it up to Estabrook for the workday last Saturday, but could not get away from the family activities and chores around the homefront.

I made a map and uploaded it to the course page (http://www.dgcoursereview.com/course.php?id=3904&mode=lf). I thought this was necessary as I got pretty lost between 11 & 12 despite having taken a picture of the course map on the kiosk with my cell phone before heading out.
