Noah and I came up with "Ozark Disc Junkies", that way Justin "el presidente" gets the "Ozark" part in and Noah's meth reference also comes into play. I envision a skull with crossed baskets and poles... just a thought.

The problem with communicating things online are that you never know the posters' true intention. While I laughed out loud when I saw them, I am not sure that is the best option for attracting local business sponsorship =) For what it is worth, I am not married to the Ozark concept.

I was just playing out Paul's idea. I think it looks we are based in East L.A.

The club in Springfield, MO is the Ozark Disc Golf Club. Based on that, it would probably be confusing to use "Ozark" in the name.

I might have missed the point of the comment. When Justin said calling ourselves the "Rolla Disc Golf Club" would "pigeonhole us," the subject turned to a catch nickname like "Flyers" or "Sharpshooters." I guess I left with the impression that people didn't want to call it a "disc golf club." Like maybe we were going to have a bowling team as well.

I'm thinking Justin's real point was not to call us "Rolla" since that would narrow our scope. I think Justin is on record as wanting to do whatever we can do with Ozark Mountain, which is not in Rolla or even Phelps County. I think now that he was looking for a word that would cover a more generalized area with a fluid border that we could manipulate to wherever an opportunity was rather than getting into arguments down the road about whether a "Rolla" club would want to get a course in St. James.

"Ozark" would have done that and tied in with Ozark Mountain, but Springfield already is using it and the area around and south of Springfield is really more "Ozark" than we are, so we move on.

I agree with Justin, but for what it's worth...I think it is hilarious. I don't really want a cookie cutter name for our group, but I also want one that will attract people to sponsor us. Disc Junkies is cool, but I understand the disconnect. I would be a fun nickname, but I know the other ramifications. I think it would be clever to have a name like Ozark Disc Society due to the fact that none of us would actually be in a high class "society"

The region we are in is commonly referred to as the "Meramec Region." Kinda weird since the Gasconade River runs through more of the "Meramec Region" than the Meramec River does, but it is what it is. We also get called "South-Central" Missouri a lot.

I really like the Meramec concept. What about something like the Meramec Frequent Flyers Society? Just another idea---lets keep the creative juices flowing.
