Spring league at Ber Juan
I would vote for B and keep current scoring system as well. I know in past leagues...teams have taken 90's for both members not being there. And I know it had never crossed my mind if that if BOTH team members were gone that you could have a non-team representative still put up a score other than 90 for you. You sign up for a league knowing what night you play...if your team can't make it (at least part of it)...you forfeit the night.
I vote B. I respect you Ish, but it ridiculous to think that you can win a league and show up 5 times. I was mistakenly under the impression that our current rules were that of B. I even kinda remember it being discussed during last summer's league initial meeting when Matt Peaslee brought it up and we all kind of looked at him like he had three heads, "of course you have to take a 90 if neither partner shows up."
I totally agree with you guys. If I knew if would be even slightly brought up I would not have asked Noah to sub for us. Also, no slight to Noah but it is not like I brought in a dead ringer to shoot what Ish and I shoot together or even close to that. I knew going in that I would be playing Cali a lot since he had school on Tuesday. I didn't mind playing Cali during the weeks Ish had class. My original partner bailed and Ish said heck why not. If you really want to get technical my original partner was Noah so really Ish was subbing for Noah the whole time.
I knew that out of the past few weeks I was going to miss one for sure and maybe two because I actually had work (imagine that). Ish thought he could get away the second week but that did not happen.
Bill technically Ish could still win and show up 5 times if I played cali and did really well the whole time.
Either way this is a good thing it happened so then the next league it will be fixed.
I understand. I just think, honestly that Cali should be restricted to a certain number, because lets be honest, it is an advantage.
Yeah...it doesn't matter how 'good' or 'bad' the sub is...the issue is that the sub put up a score significantly better than 90...and because of that score (instead of the 90) it will have a major impact on the final standings of the league. It kept the team in contention...when they otherwise wouldn't be.
Justin if we showed up you know that score would have been a lot lower then 54. Our scores have been 44, 53 (me cali), 47, 47, and then last night a 43. I know you are saying that a 90 is a lot higher then a 54 but if you want we can take that 54 down and take a 90. Either way if Scott K adds in the points we are still ahead by 1.5 points. If I am wrong please correct me.
Scott...I'm not upset about this in the slightest. I'm certainly not suggesting that you take down the score. But for future I would like to see this rule defined so everyone KNOWS how this works. I'm not suggesting you wouldn't have beaten the score of 54 either...I know you very well could have...but on the night in question...you didn't. And therein lies the heart of the rule in question. I guess I see it a little like other sports leagues (and I know that it is not THE SAME...but in some ways it is)...if you are not there...you take a loss on your record. And we have already established in our league that if your team is not represented...a 90 it is. I would guess if others knew that you could have subs play for you when neither team member was present...there would be some teams that would have certainly drafted someone to play for them so they didn't take that 90. Again...we are just discussing and taking opinions here...I hope no one is taking offense. But we need to clarify this rule apparently...cause til now I think the assumption by most (and maybe I'm wrong but I don't think so) is that someone from your team needs to be there. Again...not upset at all (we haven't played well enough this season to really have much of a gripe)...just my opinion.
Scott--the "points thing" should not even be a consideration at this point, because the league is not scored that way. Justin's point is completely valid...in what sport can your team not show up and still "win" (score points in this instance). In an 8 week league if an entire team misses two weeks, that is one quarter of the league. Too much in my opinion...and ANY team that takes 2 90's in this format cannot win. There are just way too many strokes to make up for. My vote obviously stays the same.
As far as the amount of people in our league...while I am all for growing our league (I have played in every league so far)...I am not willing to compromise the quality of league to lure people that wouldn't play otherwise. If the city is going to create an ultimatum on how many teams we have to have, then we can just run our own league...which we basically already do. Literally every team that is playing this season is a direct result of club recruiting. The city does next to nothing to advertise for the league. It is fair to say that it is going to be a long time before the city puts any more money into disc golf as it stands.
I have heard all the arguments of how bad we need the city...and I am on board with playing ball with the city...but if they want to cancel leagues, we can just do our own.
No offense taken. I think the rule needs to be clarified and rule B does that. The points thing was just coming from DG Scene. If we are doing strokes then why even have a point system on there?
Ok so now that we can get over this one to the next subject of what Justin R is talking about. To me (who has only been here for 3 months) the city could care less about DG and if we want anything done or planned we need to do it ourself. The issue of not being able to use Lions Club for tournaments need to be fixed. We need to sit down with them and find out what they want and tell them what we want so we can get some things going this summer. We really need to focus on that so we can have league stuff out there rather then at Ber Juan. Ber Juan is fun but Lions Club is a way better course with a lot more chances to screw up (the fun of it).
