St. Louis runs a similar league at Sioux Passage. Their attendance numbers last year were 13, 4, 7, 8, 0, 5, 3, 6, 6, and 4. If you recall, the weather was brutal. The week they had no one there was snow on the ground and the temperature was 0° F. The year before the numbers were 6, 6, 5, 7, 12, 20, 15, 8, 8, 6, 15, 8, 4, 17. When the weather was bad, they have a handful of diehards who show. When the weather is good, the turnout still isn't great. Winter golf is winter golf. Most people put the plastic away when it dips into the 40's.
When you play random draw, the standing rule is three or less and you play singles, four or more and you go ahead with doubles. It really doesn't take too many people to pull off.
The S&T guys might be the wildcard. Young guys don't worry about the cold so much, they still have that macho streak in them that all of us old married guys have had beaten out of us. I'd like a lot more feedback from them before we went ahead with anything.
I'm a college student and when I played in St Louis at JB over the summer the random doubles started at noon. I'm not really to sure if myself or other students would make it out at 9 am. I know all of my friends that play stay out until at least 3 or 4 most ridays, so getting up after 4 hours of sleep to play disc golf probably wont happen to often.
What can you possibly be doing until 4 in the AM in Rolla?
If it's noon I'm out. I have to be at work at 2 on Saturdays. If noon works better for the masses I'm fine with it. I just won't be there.
The thing at JB Ryan is talking about is the nooner. It runs on Sundays at JB. If we went to a late start like that you might want to look at Sunday VS Saturday. You run up against football either way in the Fall. If it's in the morning you get done before a lot of games kickoff.
Yeah, I mean I would show up to most of them at 9 am if at all possible and I'm sure a few other students would also. I am just saying that there will be a decent amount of kids that wont get up that early.
If we went to Sunday's you can be sure that Nathan, Justin, and I would be out. Thanks for the feedback Jarvis...are you a part of the campus disc golf club?
I have tried to be, but all the meetings that they have had have conflicted with my schedule. Hopefully I can go to the next one they have and ask around if they would go at 9 am on Saturdays.
Wes got back to me on the meeting he had; he said no one showed up. Scheduling can be a pain with college students; the only reason Wes wasn't at the meeting we had was because of a conflict with a class. Ish said the same thing. I'm sure the interest it there for an S&T groups, it just has to pull together.
