In their infinite wisdom, St. Louis county parks is closing the disc track at Creve Coeur lake in St. Louis County. The StL Disc Golf club is holding a final event Sunday April 1st at noon (replacing the JB Nooner). The baskets will be removed immediately following the the event.

Not sure of the reasons behind the decision.

Maybe it will be resurrected at some point but for now RIP Creve Coeur.

The story I got was that the County cut back on mowing, and when they did they told River City Flyers that the Creve Coeur disc golf course was not going to be mowed AT ALL this summer. They are also going to build a maintenance building where the back nine is (the only part of the course that retains the original pre-flood design) so about five holes will have to be moved and reworked. RFC was given the option to mow it, but they had to have a 2 million $$$ liability policy to do that. RCF opted not to spend the kind of money it takes to get 2 million in liability coverage on Creve Coeur. So the grass was going to get long and some holes needed to be moved, but that was the deal.

In the last week or so the County decided that there was to much liability in having baskets out there inviting people to play in ass-high grass and said the baskets have to be removed, which was the first the St. Louis Club had heard of the course being removed.

The flip side is that the County has long been dead set against a 36 hole course in Sioux Passage despite having the land. The concession for the Creve Coeur mess is that they have now given the green light to that project. So the County is trying to do something to make it right. It doesn't make it feel right, though.

At this point, RCF are adamant that the County has told them that the baskets can go back in after the grass goes dormant and the site in mowed down in October. That is the plan, that Creve Coeur will become a Winter-only seasonal course. It's a backwards and stupid plan, but that is the plan.

But yeah, the nooner will be at CC Sunday and then the baskets will be gone. RIP Creve Coeur.

36 at Souix would be sweet. Its a long way to drive for most to get up there but its a nice track; 36 would make it even more worth the trip.

Posted earlier tonight: "The STL Disc Golf Board discussed the April 2 closing of CC again, and brought up the fact that the grass is not tall right now and it is premature to remove the baskets at this time. STL County Parks agreed and said they can remain in the ground a few more weeks. The board will help STL County Parks in setting the future date. A good estimate is it should remain open for all of April."
