OK, coming up on May 19th is I think the first ever PDGA event at
in East Liverpool, OH. This tournament offers two rounds of 27 holes. The tournament site is on Facebook which I am not a user of so you will need to get more details yourself here:
This course is only a 40 minute drive or so from Pittsburgh so don't be deterred by it being an Ohio event. Kelsey's Ice Bowls are renowned throughout the region for providing a good time/food/prizes so I would think his first PDGA event will be pretty good. Try to make it out since I like it when a Pennsylvanian wins an Ohio event.
This coming saturday (May 12) there is a non-sanctioned doubles event at
in Suffield OH. Normally I do not advertise events more than an hour away but this one stuck out to me because of how crazy it sounds. From what I can tell from the tournament page
you will be paired with a Derby Girl for mixed doubles. Some of the highlights are "Beer cart, jello shots, 50/50 raffle, derby girl wheel of wonder, raffle baskets, and more!" I am curious to know what the "more" is. It sounds pretty interesting so I thought I should make you all aware of it.
I just checked today and it looks like the Thompson Park event has been removed from the PDGA website so as far as I know it has been cancelled.
The PFDO is this weekend. If you are not playing you should at least come out and watch some of the big guns throw. It is pretty impressive. Or you could pick a hole to help spot on. Everyone always appreciates a good spotter and you get to see every group.
On September 8th our friends from West Virginia are hosting the Seth Burton Memorial tournament. This tournament will take place on the Orange Crush and Seth Burton disc golf courses. Check out their website for more information
On October 6th
in East Liverpool will be hosting an Ace Race. I think this will be the closest event to the Pittsburgh area this year. The ace race website says there was one in Waynesburg this past August but I never heard anything about it.
If you have not played in an Ace Race they are casual and very fun. You should definitely check it out. A good players pack for everyone. For more information on Ace Races in general check out
. I cannot find more information about this ace race specifically but I am pretty sure the Thompson Park crew has a facebook page you could check (I am not a FB user).
, in lovely Stuebenville OH, will be hosting their annual Ice Bowl. Played on a challenging course and in any conditions (20 inches of snow a few years ago) this has always been a great event. Registration will take place from 10 - 10:30 or so, with a players meeting at 10:45 and tee off at 11. This will be one round with lunch and a raffle following at the world famous Spot Bar. The raffle alone is worth the trip! They always have tons of good stuff.
Don't forget to bring your canned goods!
