Hey, I saw this in the paper. I already have plans on Wednesday but next Tuesday I'm going to make sure I make it to this. If everybody can show to one or the other and make sure the "powers that be" understand that the disc golf course is important to us, maybe we can shake something loose. And by "something" I mean $$$.

City of Rolla to host Public Forums Oct. 20 and 26 on future of Parks and The Centre

In an effort to keep the public involved in the betterment of the park system and facilities, the City of Rolla, the Parks & Recreation Department and The Centre will be holding a public forum from 5:30-6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 20 at The Centre (Meeting Room A), 1200 N. Holloway St in Rolla.

The purpose of the forum is to allow citizens to give input regarding recreation programming; input on future park needs; capital improvement projects (long term and short term) and ways to fund these projects.

The third and final public forum will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 26 at the Catholic Newman Center, located at 1607 N. Rolla Street (across from the Missouri S & T Electrical Engineering Building).

After I posted this I got an email from the youth soccer folks. They want to flood the meeting this Wednesday with people demanding more soccer fields. Squeaky wheels, my fiends. If we don't show up and make some noise, somebody else will.

Did anybody make this one? Oh, wait. The paper said Justin, Noah and Nathan were there.

I had a soccer meeting, but I'm going to be at the one next Tuesday. If you are an MST student you should show next Tuesday, it's going to be in that building right there where that tunnel for TJ Hall comes out under the highway.

The three of us were there and it was quite productive. Noah and I have an appt. to meet with Ken Kwantes next week to discuss the future of Ber Juan's DG course. It should be positive and we will know a lot more about what their plans are after this.

Be prepared for the fact that this is not a presentation by the city. Basically, all it is is an open house where you can come and ask questions. They have some interesting informational stuff to browse through, and you can voice your opinions on stuff.

Long story short: There was a lot of small-town backstabbing politics at the time that the Centre was built that resulted in the Centre and Splash Zone being one budget and Parks and Recreation being another, which makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. The April ballot measure to retire the 1/2 cent sales tax for the Centre and replace it with a 3/8 cent sales tax would merge the Centre and Parks and Recreation into one department and will give more support to the park system. That would be very good for people like us that want stuff done in the parks.

What we need to do as a Club is put this on the agenda for the next meeting and make a decision about an official stance on this issue. If we are in support of it, there are things we can do to help it pass.
