First, I know the plan is to burn all the trimmings along LC #13 and #14, please be careful...seems every previous burn within the woods killed the immediate surrounding trees. The start of the burn pile near pin #13 is very close to trees guarding the A and B pins, kill those and the hole is a lessor hole.

Second, how about changing to some B pin placements, the course is now more than 5 months open, all the B's are in, its time imo. Maybe give a key to a trusted player who can change it up periodically as they play. I think rather than going all A's or all B's, a random mixture is best for variety. Its not that difficult on most every holes to see which placement is active from the pad.

Third, dog owners, please toss your dogs "presents" into the woods, its not that hard to do. Nothing worse than skipping a disc through a fresh *hit pile.

Fourth, every out-of-towner that I've played with has really liked the course and vowed to return which is good for the local economy. Any long-term plans for another 18 holes on the back 40 acres? There is plenty of space for multi-use within the mountain bike trail area, I both mountain bike and trail run the area regularly, it would not bother it a bit. With 36 quality holes (45 if you count Ber Juan which I don't), Rolla would be a day-tripper destination drawing from the Fort LW, StL, Springfield, Jeff City, Columbia.

Fifth, anyone played Potosi, MO yet? New 18 holes with Gateway Titan pins I understand.

That was a lot of random thoughts...

1. I agree...and if you hear when they are planning to do it let me know...as I would love to help.
2. I also agree, although I am not sure they will give the key to any of us. The main point I agree with is that a mixture of the two pin positions seems optimal.
3. I doubt your message is going to reach the intended audience on this board.
4. I agree on all accounts...except that this is probably not the time to go there. Lets finish what we have and let it play for a while. Hopefully as time goes by, the Lions Club will be receptive to that. It is too soon. They have put a LOT of time and money into this one. Patience is key.
5. My understanding is that Potosi is not 18 holes yet...maybe only as many as 13. They are Gateway Titan pins though.

6. Who are you? Just curious because I have met lots of new people on the course but have yet to make the connection. Would love to get you plugged in to the local club with as much as you play.

The Lion's Club calls all the shots out there. I don't think this thread in on their radar.

It would be nice to get some alternate pin placements going. I haven't run into any 'landmines' out there yet left by pets...but I have been aggravated a couple times when pet walkers seemingly oblivious to other people using the disc golf course for disc golf, get in the way and stay in the way until you finally have to say "You might want to watch out." Oh well...can't really complain...disc golf in Rolla has progressed from nothing a little over a year ago to a nice 9 holer and a great 18 holer. A lot of places can't say the same.

Part of the pet issue, at least in the field at 15, 16, 17, is that LC designated it the "pet park" a few years back and many of the pet owners seem to think that they have dibs on it. I know LC had spoken to some regulars there regarding cleaning up after their dogs once the course was put in but they don't seem to care.

I think we need to be aware of the danger of "tunnel visioning" on disc golf. If you objectively look at the park spaces in Rolla, I don't think you can justify another course at this point. Rolla has a dramatic lack of baseball/softball and soccer fields. There is no room for teams to practice, and there are several substandard fields used for leagues. Given the number of people who participate in those sports VS disc golf, those needs should be in front of another disc golf course. That goes double considering that I've never been to either course on a day when the course is what I would consider packed with players.

The Lion's Club from what I understand had a plan at one point to sell off the 63 frontage of the park to developers and use the money to develop a whole new park with a Rolla Street entrance. That was based on a road that was never built and the economy before it tanked, so that idea is probably off the table now. The reason I mention it is that the Lion's Club has all that land for a reason. They should have a master plan for developing that land, and that plan is going to take into account a lot more than what a bunch of disc golfers want. We need to respect that.

IMO we should be focused on developing more players in this area right now. We need a lot more players before we can really justify a need for more courses.

Tomorrow at 9 am they are going to be hauling the branches out on 13 and burning them. If anyone can help, please come out. Thanks!
