I'm not really starting this to complain or anything, just stating my opinion in a place where guys running events will read it and no one else really has to see it.

IMO the long placement on #8 is pretty stupid. It's not in the fairway or just off the fairway. It's over in a spot I would not associate with hole #8. It can make the hole harder since you can easily be over there on your approach and have no putt at the basket, but that's about all I can say for it. It's basically a WTF placement.

However, it's there and the basket will be placed over there from time to time and I'm not going to fight it or let it ruin my day. The only reason I bring it up is this: For events people tend to like to trick out course into an "all long" configuration to try to make them score as high as possible. However, that long basket on # 8 puts the baskets for # 8 and # 9 in clear view of each other with nothing to shield the movements of players on the other hole from you while you are putting. I think it will tick off players putting on # 9 if they have those people wandering around the basket on # 8 in their sight line.

For that reason I would suggest that # 8 be placed in the short if there is a competitive event planned for Lion's Club. That, and the fact that the long placement is stupid.

I agree with everything you have said. This hole and hole 17 needs to be re thought out. They are both stupid and should never ever be moved. EVER! haha

I know you mentioned #17 B before as being a bad placement. I wondered what bothered you so much about it.

IMO it's just some guardian trees in front of the placement; I've seen 1,000 holes like it. It's not really my idea of the fairest hole I've seen, but it's not an epic fail like # 8 B. What bothered you about it?

What bothers me is that it isn't much different if any difference from the A position. That simple.

The tee sign says it's 23' longer to the B, which I'm not sure about. It might be 23' from the A to the B, but I don't think the B is 23' farther from the tee than the A.

I'm kind confused about the tee sign for #14 as well. It says the B is 100' shorter than the A, but the B is farther down the fairway. If you measure to the A with a turn down the fairway it would add some distance, but if you stand at that turn and look at both placements they seem pretty close to the same distance away. Maybe it's just my eyes, but I don't get an extra 100' to the A.

Not to mention the A should be the short measurement and the B the long measurement, but now I am just bitching.

At any rate, #17 might not have a great B placement, but it doesn't create any problems with play. I think the #8 B sitting there in plain view of #9 will create a problem in a tournament setting. Just my $0.02.

I agree that 8b sucks---and the solution to the problem is very simple. We can easily move that basket before an event. The only reason that it is even there is because we wanted to switch all the baskets so that we have played every pin position. It would be a lot less ridiculous if a small path was cleared by the basket so that you didn't have to throw into the field for a legitimate putt at it. Allen through the best drive I have seen on 8 on Tuesday and should have been putting for 2, but he had no look at it at all. I have less of an issue with the line of sight putting issue. We have the exact same issue with 14b---there is no good way to attack the basket because stuff is so grown up along the woods on the right side---although it is not quite as big an issue as 8b. I agree that 17b is totally lame and a waste of an alt pin position...but I think we are stuck with it for now.

#14 B just needs to be cleaned out. #17 isn't really an issue, just lame. I think there were limits on where those basket could go because of the dog trail. #8 B is in a bad spot to try to putt on #8 and it creates a visual conflict with #9, so really it's a placement with no redeeming value IMO. Even if you clear out a route to the basket, there is still the conflict with #9. The solution to me is not to use it, but it's there and some people will want to use it because it's there. I just wanted to make a point that we shouldn't use it in competition.

I agree with Justin. If there is a path to putt at the basket then it will be better. I don't really see an issue with the people on 9 putting getting distracted by the people on 8. If you want to make that argument then you worry about people on 18 look at people on 9 or 10 tee, people on 2 looking at people on 3 tee.

14 B is does need to be cleaned out and could be considered longer then A but with the turn A is longer.
