Children's tournament just completed
Charlotte DGC held their 2nd annual Children's Tournament today and had a fantastic turn out (80 kids, 2 rounds of DG; all kids and parents fed; prizes galore). 6 age divisions for both boys and girls--6 yr olds and under, 7-8 yr olds, 9-10 yrs (ten girls in this age division), 11-12 yr olds, 13-14 yr olds, and 15-17 yr olds. Hottest round was by a 14-yr old boy that shot a 38! Another notable was a Wysocki win (Zach, Ricky's younger brother and caddy during the USDGC, won the 7-8 yr old boys).
Is there any better way of developing the sport? Sponsors really stepped up--Innova in a big way (player pack and a Traveler basket for a CTP), REI with $500 of merchandise, PDGA with $500 of merch and youth memberships, PIAS with a Discatcher basket (ring-of-fire), and many other sponsors. Kids sell in sponsorships! |
That is sweet! Way to go Charlotte DGC!

Definitely a fun day for everyone involved. Big thanks to Steve, all the sponsors(play it again, REI, Innova, PDGA) and the host of volunteers.
I'll tell ya these kids can throw. Lots of good golf played this weekend. |
It occurred to me that the 14-year old kid (Joe Painter) shot a -16. So he shot more than his age under par. This wasn't PDGA sanctioned, but it's still amazing. He's rated about 930 and he shot what I figure to be in the 1040 range.
Did Wiggins ever shoot his age under par in a PDGA tourney? Or any other hotshot (Steve Rico, etc.)? |
