How wooded do we like it?

This comment was made, and it got me thinking "how do we DGCR reviewers like our courses?"

I did a little analysis of 3.5+ rated 18+ hole courses with 10 or more reviews:

So Moderately Wooded wins.

Certainly looks like wooded is better than open on average, and that pretty clearly shows that elevation makes a difference to the average reviewer.

Condensing/isolating the data to just "How Wooded" and "How Hilly"

It appears that how hilly a course is has a much larger affect on how we rate courses than how wooded.

That is CRAZY that Light and Flat are right at 31/33 nearly identical, and Mod and Mod are both 55%. Then the big jump from 55 to 73 for increasing hills, while staying the same old 55 for increasing woods.

Maybe the moral of the story is "Hitting trees is fun for some of the people some of the time, but throwing downhill is fun for all of the people all of the time"

Open + flat = :thmbdown:

I like it so hilly and wooded it makes the chuckers quit and the Tarheels whine like spoiled princesses.
