One thing I've done as temp obstacles that is kinda similar was to use large dead branches from trees...

For my course it more of a problem of cutting down the nicer tree's. I'm all for cutting down dead and junk tree's but there always seem to be a few nice Oaks, Maples, Spruce, or Fruit Trees, etc....

They're not small, just 4-5 inches above the ground in most spots. Better off just teeing off to the side... ...
