it would help to see a video of your technique, but there's two areas where new players hurt themselves in terms of distance drives. The first is not pulling back enough. Think of a golf backswing....

DX sidewinder. I used that disc for the very shot the OP described until I lost it. Star Sidewinder isn't bad for turnovers but will only flip flat out of a hyzer.
