That is Horse stance with hips and knees locked out and balance behind heels. Horse stance is not really used in fighting because it's more of an immovable stance, but it's good for training muscles....

I've seen people play with golf gloves and sports tape. Can't recommend anything as I've not used either. I've used new skin for cuts with good results though.

I refer to it as a wide "reachback" and it feels so wide as the arm motion is shorter and the upper arm has this massive width from the chest. The pull or swing does come in close to the chest.
