No "great" courses in that area. Play it Again Sports in Northbrook is the only local shop.

Fairfield (http://www.dgcoursereview.com/course.php?id=6857) is your best bet...it's worth the drive...

Yes, it's worth the high rating. In a nutshell, it's a bigger/better version of Grey Fox/Red Fox in Silver Lake. I used to drive past Fairfield on my way to Silver Lake before the redesign.

Last year, my Pittsburgh DG road trip included Knob Hill, Deer Lakes, Moraine & The Black Course as well as Idlewild and Mt. Airy.

You will not be disappointed at any of those Pittsburgh area...

If you have played a round on Squaw Creek Gold with your kid, you will be able to do the same at Ghost Town. There are a couple holes that are not stroller friendly.
