Presumably you played other rounds and that was the best one?
Very basically, a 1000 rating is a standard pro, a "scratch golfer", and each 10 ratings points is worth a stroke. 968 would be 3-4 strokes worse than what a scratch golfer would be expected to shoot. Top pros may shoot 1050 or a little higher.
Your rounds are averaged to give you a player rating, and the player rating tells you which amateur divisions you're eligible to play in. 968 is a pretty good round for the Advanced division, probably a winning score for the Intermediate division. A player rating above 935 must play Advanced, or Open.
