Disc golf course considered for Portage parks - Indiana
PORTAGE | Brian Cummings told members of the Portage Park Board last week that if they build a disc golf course, people will come.
Cummings, a disc golf promoter, told the board the sport is increasing in popularity because it is an inexpensive recreational activity. Cummings said he has designed a course for Woodland Park that would not interfere with other activities.
"It would go huge here. It's not real expensive, and kids and college kids are playing it like crazy," said Cummings, who has designed courses for Lemon Lake County Park in Lake County and other local facilities.
He said it would cost about $6,000 for baskets for the course.
Cummings did not have a drawing of the proposed course at Woodland Park available for the board's review.
Park Superintendent Jenny Orsburn said she is aware of the desire to locate a course at a Portage park and has spoken to the Portage Parks Foundation about potential property for the course. She asked that Cummings supply a business or marketing plan for the new activity.
