I even tried this "spine clinic" where they did ART (Active Release Technique) and that was even more of a snake oil sales job. It was 20 mins hooked up to a TENS and then some of this magical ART. The point is they wanted me 3x a week for 6 weeks and I was still experiencing a spasm every 2 weeks. If a single one of those people had a clue and performed Spurling's test like the doctor did, I could saved a ton of money and a year of my life. The physical therapist he sent me to was amazing. I once visited for some dry needling before a tournament and told him i sprained my middle finger joint. He gave me some exercises that got me back to a full power grip within 3 days.

Was there any sort of celebratory head banging after the shot?

Completely disagree. I'm sure there are some bad ones out there, but I had a pinched nerve in my neck and couldn't even hold my head up straight without excruciating pain. I went in and I was doing better by the end of the day. I had to go one more time shortly after for another adjustment and haven't had to go back since. That was 8 years ago.
On top of that I learned that the position I was sleeping in could have been the cause of it and anytime I sleep that way I can feel the stiffness in my neck from it. It could have been a recurring problem in my life if I hadn't had the adjustments and advice I received from her. People bag on chiropractors but my experience was one of money well spent. My 2 cents. As for the OP, it sounds like you should see an actual doctor from the symptoms you describe. That sounds more like cardiovascular disease than neck problems... |

I've been to a orthopedic specialist about the pains i was getting in my neck and the resulting numbness in various areas of my throwing arm. He explained to me in great detail(with my 3D MRI) that the repetitive motion of throwing as hard as we disc golfers do IS causing irreversable damage to the spine. Combine that with a inflammation of a couple discs and the resulting pressure on nerve bundles that lead down my throwing arm and I'm faced with the fact that I'll never throw as far as I once did.
My advice to you? Go get an MRI. Have an orthopedic explain the results to you. Make sure you educate him/her on the throwing motion that you're doing and how hard you're doing it. Last edited by CaptainAnhyzer; 10-04-2012 at 07:39 AM. |

That's really interesting Captain, but yea everything seems to be working out with my neck, didn't go to any doctor and it's healing very quickly on it's own. It was most likely just a pulled muscle, that really.. really hurt. I am feeling back to normal indeed
I am surprised no one else has done this before on here haha.

I am a chiropractic student at the moment, and I would really like to know why someone would say I am a fraud? The education I am receiving is incredible. Not only do I know how to perform chiropractic adjustments, but I know exactly what effects it has on a patient. I am an expert in the nervous system and I know the effects that misalignment of the human body can have. I'm not posting this to argue with anyone. But, I am very proud of what I am doing and I am willing to share my knowledge. Just because you don't understand something doesn't make it fraudulent. Lets discuss the issue.

I'll share a story about a parent of one of our sons friends who recalled her experience with a chiropractor that ended in horror. She was going to a chiropractor for neck pain and during one session had an especially painful neck pop. Turns out that neck adjustment ruptured an artery and it developed a blood clot. Continuing in pain, she went back to the chiropractor who again popped her neck busting open the clot and she had a stroke. |

My chiropractor just happens to be the former physical thrapsit for the NY Giants. Pretty confident of his abilities and knowledge.
And before i get a bunch of questions asking "why former?", a coaching change some years ago cleared out all the medical staff. |

As for your experience, a spurlings test should have been administered upon your initial visit. Just like any other profession, for every 1 good doctor there are 2 bad. Some people lose track of why they became doctors in the first place. They spend far to much time trying to sell something to you when they should be helping you to fix your problem. The number and frequency of your treatments should be determined on the severity of your situation and the amouant of time it will take to fix. Those are the ONLY factors that should be involved. I would like to take a minute to address your story of the patient that experienced a stroke post adjustment. Research shows no cause/effect relationship between chiropractic spinal manipulation and stroke. "Cervical artery disease is a rare condition with symptoms very similar to benign conditions that are often treated with chiropractic adjustment. This creates the appearance of an association relationship." (NCMIC,2005). "Chiropractors may see a patient who either are experiencing a stroke or are very close to experiencing a stroke due to a compromise in the vertebral or carotid arteries. Often, the patients only symptom will be a cervical musculoskeletal complaint-A common complainat of patients when they go to see a doctor of chiropractic."(NCMIC,2005) Here is a link to a study supporting my response. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18204390
