Good point! That would stink, too! The Red, White, Blue, Gold, Short, Long, pro, am, etc. Frolf tees would all be lame.

We all tee off from the same tee, it doesn't matter what the ladies tee is called.

Usually, the group I play in will play a round of "short odds" and then a round of "long odds". Mixing the tees up during a round to get a greater range of distances off the tee.

How come there are 17,000 golf courses in the US an no one complains about them having "Ladies" tees.

i think the main reason is that it's been the same way so long that people just accept it.

i'd be the most common answer you'd get if you asked a lot of ball golfers would be, "that's just the way it has always been".
