Dude, that's too funny, I just did my 1st as well, I did 3 total and this was the exact same pattern I used for one of them, pulled it off of google images.

I don't remember the starter image I used, but it had too much shading and what not, so I used the circle tool and line tool in photoshop to trace it

I'll post a picture of mine when I can, the only difference is mine is shaded in all in black.

Some experiments with powder Rit and laundry detergent. They have an interesting gritty/grainy pattern.
Previously did a mirror black bottom dye on this one.


Some fun with the extra Rit.


For some reason, this one hardly took at all or maybe it's just the opacity of the plastic

Nice work man! Like you, I'm just getting into learning to dye, but I'm having fun with it. Try out the shaving cream method when you get a chance. I'm getting some really good results with it.

Thanks! I was going to try the shaving cream method, but I didn't think the wife would take to kindly to me using her shaving cream. LOL

If you mix the dye with detergent and let it sit for a while. You can use the detergent that is at the top after the dye granules have settled to paint without getting as much of a grainy look. Also Champ type plastic typically takes significantly longer to get a nice deep color on it.

Helpful info, thanks. I probably made the paint too thick, but I also think the grainy look is pretty cool. The rim on the white star katana looks like coffee, grounds and all. Or maybe it's feces after eating sand?
