Don't run up hill, come from the side. This allows your hips to already be in position to rotate into the throw. Otherwise you turn your hips down hill during the reach back and then have to overcome that momentum an start rotating uphill.
The other thing is get the elbow up and throw more of a flex shot. This allows the disc to be higher at release. Typically this is doable, but sometimes not. Do it if you can.

I don't think anyone has mentioned this yet, but if you are throwing right into the ground in front of you, try focusing on your shoulder plane.
If you are RHBH its helps me when I keep my left shoulder lower than my right shoulder. Just like it is difficult to throw a hyzer spike without changing your shoulders it is difficult to throw uphill with a flat or neutral shoulder plane. You can try reaching back low in order to remind yourself to align your shoulder plane more so upward to accommodate the hill. |

For a super steep hill with the basket around 200-250' ft away I generally throw a thumber very high and very hard. I could certainly throw a backhand shot and reach the green, but there are too many variables and I need more predictability. The thumber is the answer to that, and usually puts me in or close to the circle for a putt.
The max distance potential is definitely reduced with the thumber which is why I only do it if the basket is sitting on the top of the hill within throwing distance. |
