I used to live in SA for 3 years. Pearsall was definitely not my favorite course in SA, although the only one on the south side. Check out the San Antonio Disc Golfers group on FB. I think there is a mini there on Saturdays. Probably not the best course for a noob. I'd check out http://www.dgcoursereview.com/course.php?id=434 Perfect for a first timer.

MFC is right on the money.... Pearsall can be a demanding course, especially in the wind, which seems to be blowing the majority of the time. In my opinion its a great course, I feel its under-rated a bit due to some of the north side courses being pretty awesome. Nani is a great course to get out and throw some discs around. WIDE open, which can really cut out some of the frustration that a beginner may find at a course such as pearsall. I like to swing by nani for practice rounds, good mix of distances, can really get a feel for what different discs are gonna do. No matter which course you head to, you're gonna have a good time. Have fun man!

Just an FYI - There have been some discussions going on lately with the local DG clubs to improve/redesign Pearsall and apparently they already have 3 different possible designs. I'm originally from SA but live in Austin and it's really great to see these clubs always working hard to improve their local courses.

You can probably expect the following to take place:

Live Oak Summer Open @ Live Oak
Battle in the Briars - Brian McClain Park
Fly Ink Open (historically at Live Oak)
Twisted Flyer usually has a tournament at either Live Oak or Universal City Park
