MVP Shock

Parting Line Height, some pages back in this thread, you will see profile pix of Shock and Volt and you will see that Shock's PLH (i.e. edge of nose) is bit higher than Volt. In MVP driver's case, higher PLH tends to be more stable. You can put discs on i.e. table and see differences in PLH.

Do you have OAT issues? Some OAT in throw might turn disc over than expected.

Not much of my experience thus far is opened up to any decent length or openness.

On the other hand I've been forhanding the Shock on hyzers with low ceilings or tight gaps very consistently. 7 of 9 so far on the three such shots on my course. This is hitting 10-15 foot gaps, between 200-300 feet, flat and uphill,on a hyzer.

It allows some distance on a nice 60-70% forhand which might need more height with a zone or midrange, and is a nice alternative to the high speed overstable category because throwing with less power can translate to accuracy.

OK, I might check the PLH out to learn more about Disc shapes. I will admit when I got the Amp, I thought that the rim felt pretty heavy and thick to be understable. But when I got the Shock, I though that it felt kind of light and slim to overstable. But I don't think I threw them any differently.

I haven't filmed myself driving, or gone to classes to get feedback on my form. So I can't really say if I suffer from Off Axis Torque. I'm sure at some level I have that problem, or I would be getting better scores. Could certainly be that that is why these discs don't behave how I would expect. But at least in the case of the Amp, I think the particular disc I got in the early white batch was not quite right. Because I should be able to turn that over. I could turn over a 175 g Rampage better than that one :P

Yeah looks like you got more stable Amp. If you can throw Axis straight and clean (holds any line you put on) then your form is probably clean. How far do you normally throw those MVP drivers? Say Volt?

I think we have to just accept the fact that some of the first runs of these dics were a bit off perhaps.

From everything I've seen and read about the Volt I'm pretty sure mine is much more understable than others. If I put anything over 60% power it'll flip and not come back and that's throwing with some hyzer. You can say it's my form and question that all you want but I can throw a Mamba close to 400 and not turn it over.

I personally did not see differences in the three Volts I got when they came out. Nor the two Amps.

That's not to say there weren't some differences in the first runs. Come to think of it, MVP has pretty much had to "dial in" all of their discs after initial runs. Once dialed in however, the consistency is top notch.

On a related note, the Roc3 thread has players complaining about domey Rocs. Maybe they'll get them flatter in future runs.

This brings me to a point I raised earlier...because MVP is a smaller company and (I assume) it costs them more to produce discs, I wonder if they are releasing them before they are 100 percent ready because they know we will buy them, and rather than throw them away, they release them at 90 percent consistency or whatever....its an economics t hing, maybe?

Which makes me wonder why no company (like Innova or Discraft...big companies) donates their factoryseconds (the really bad ones, not the ones they can sell as F2's) to third world countries? Bet they could get some sweet tax breaks for that...
