My home course is pretty windy and I have learned to play very conservatively the windier it gets. I also try and throw fairly low lines unless i have a tailwind.

Grandpa Golf Prevails!

Won't be playing any other events near as windy as this past weekend.

Crazy wind on the course on Saturday. I was playing youth park in St. Petersburg and threw a Boss on just about every hole to try to manage the wind. Threw a big hyzer with the boss that hit the ground and started skipping hard left...until the wind caught it and made it go from left to straight to 50 feet to the right! Never seen a disc do that. On another hole I hit a tree about 100 feet out real low, the boss skipped way out to the right and then back left about 100 feet short of the pin and proceeded to roll/tumble all the way up to the basket. Last, on hole 16, I threw a low skip shot and the wind threw that boss directly into the chains for a sweet skip ace. It looked like a bullet. Crazy day...fortunately had RussMB with me to enjoy all the crazy wind.

All that to say, throw something stupid stable into a head wind and throw less stable discs (roc, sidewinder, roadrunner, beat up stuff) with a tailwind.

We were in Sarasota at Payne's parkon Saturday, and like you said, the wind was just howling and that place has tons of open space. Watched the guys in front of us 4 putt. Anything farther than an 8 ft putt you had to be really careful with. I through a lot of low, conservative stuff, and the banshee got a workout in the headwind. It was a pretty fun experience, and I have to say that I did a pretty good job discing my kids and I around the course after reading info here. Understable with the wind, and overstable into it.

Dude, that was a crazy skip ace! Looked like something out of a movie. I've played in wind, but the wind that day was some of the worst I've seen.

Adapting to the wind takes the right disc, the ability to judge the direction and how it will affect the flight in your head before you even step up to throw. In short, it just takes practice. Intentionally go out on a windy day and experiment on the course, head winds obviously need stable plastic and tail winds need light or under stable but there is so much more cross wind direction between head and tail that sometimes what you think is the right choice could be disastrous. I personally even in a cross wind go more stable than i think i need just to be safe. It also takes a little bit of luck though cause that wind can change direction at any time. It just takes some getting used to, especially throwing in a head wind. The release has to be perfect or that disc will fly of course right as you let go. Though it can be difficult, windy days are really a lot of fun, and can help step up your game

I try to position myself for tailwind putts whenever possible.

I've got a beat in Boss that I used on that day, and I was pleasantly surprised how it threw in the wind. It'll be my go to disc on windy days from now on. Depending on the where I am in the wind, I'm not sure I'd use it on every throw, but will be my main driver for windy days.

I do the same. I learned that in an old Climo video. I also play much more conservative putting and approaching. I'd rather have 30' tailwind than 15' headwind if its bad wind.
