What is the longest hole in Ohio?
Thread title says it.
I am curious as to what the longest hole in Ohio is. I could potentially make a 10th bonus hole on our church's little 9 hole course that is up to 1500 feet long along a power line. (not that i would make it that long...just the potential) |

Hole 1 Blue Tee @ Deis Hill (978 ft) is the longest I've seen.

If you have 1500 feet, why not make several holes? I could see adding a really long hole to an 18-hole course, but if you only have 9 now, get 4 or 5 out of that space and get closer to a full course.
I'm sure you've already considered it, just wondering..... I think the long tees at Lobdell on hole 17 is over 800. Not sure I've seen anything longer in my limited time playing. Of course there's the 1000+ hole at Idlewild just over the river from Cincinnati, but that's not Ohio proper.

2 things on making several holes.
1) Money for more baskets - we have the space for 18+ just not the money. 2) it would make for several boring holes in a row. Exactly the same shot due to trees on either side of the power lines. |

Do it. Having a hole with that kind of distance adds an element of uniqueness to your course

I've played long holes along power lines, they are usually not very creative, just semi tunnel, big armed shots, or a lot of small straight midrange shots to stay inbounds..............jb

you could make it creative by having mandos and a mandatory throw (like a forced roller from the tee).

Combine the length with an elevated basket and/or man-made obstacles such as railroad ties of varying heights placed along the fairway.
| || ||| |||| If it were my course, and I wanted a record/signature hole, I'd leave the drive open, and have OB as the main obstacle off the tee. I'd leave an unmowed area from about 450 to 500' to force big arms to consider laying up, and force the rest of us to consider our disc selection for the second shot, or risk spending extra time hunting. Finally I'd use three sets of railroad ties cut in different directions to force specific shot selections in the final 300'. I'd have the final 75' or so clear to allow the elevated tee to be the final obstacle.

You could always decrease the boringness of shorter holes by adding manditories. |
