Some moderate changes:
  • Hornets are spectacular and fill the gap in my mids perfectly.
  • The Flows have been replaced by Havocs. Personal Preference. Easier to hyzer flip and keep low.
  • The Destroyers have been ousted. My power has regressed over the winter months, but i've gained distance from better mechanics with Rivers and Strikers. So I'm carrying a few more Strikers in wear stages. The Havocs are all the power driver I need.
Drivers:
Havoc Opto 171 - Long flex shots and hyzer flips, 350+
Striker GL - (3) in differing weights and wear stages, 300+
River GL - (2) in differing weights and wear stages, 275+
XXX GL - Overhand and Meat Hook

Midrange:
Core GL 175 - Stable with mild fade, 250+
Fuse GL 176 - Flippy, tailwinds, stand still approaches and hyzer flips, under 250 feet
Hornet Z 169 - Dependable fade for shot shaping.
Trident Opto 170 - Overstable meat hook and Utility.

P&A:
Pure ZeroLine 170 - Grippy chain grabbing putter, great for driving tunnel shots.
Pure GripLine 170 - Durable with dependable fade.

Next focus - Rollers
Gonna grab a stack of 165 DX Sidewinders to start learning a roller. Lemme know if you have other suggestions. I thought about Roadrunners, but there is no DX option. I'd like to stay with base-line plastics to keep this experiment cheap.

Jrawk, how do the Trident and XXX compare? Is the Trident really more mid-like? I've never thrown either, but what I saw on Lat64's site made me think they were pretty similar, and I was curious as to why you use both molds.

They are very similar. Basically the Trident is an XXX with a fatter/blunter edge. Complete overlap unless you're in need of an overhand disc. The XXX's sharper edge outshines the Trident for sky flex shots, thumbers and tommies.

Trident has a tendency to roll more, which i suppose has everything to do with the blunter edge as well.

Did 2 Ace Races last year and have 4 of the ESP Hornets. They great overstable disc, remind me of a beefed up KC Pro Whippet shape wise. Its a great into the wind midrange for me.

Some moderate changes:
  • Added GL Havocs for situations when the Optos aren't stable enough.
  • Added Opto Diamonds - winner of my understable finese driver search.
  • Replaced Fuses with LE Comets.
Drivers:
Havoc Opto 171 - Long flex shots and hyzer flips, 350+
Havoc GL 174 - mildly overstable, headwinds & flex shots 350+
Striker GL - (2) in differing weights and wear stages, 300+
River GL - (2) in differing weights and wear stages, 275+
Diamond Opto 156g - Finese driver, tunnel flips, long turns.
XXX GL - Overhand and Meat Hook

Midrange:
Core GL 175 - My fairfway driver. Stable with mild fade, 275+
Comet LE ESP - , tailwinds, stand still approaches and hyzer flips, under 250 feet
Hornet Z 169 - Dependable fade for shot shaping.

P&A:
Pure ZeroLine - Grippy chain grabbing putter,
Pure GripLine 173 - Driving putter, durable with dependable forward fade.

nothing too drastic, but i am toying with JLS's and OLF's and am liking them. The scary part is i can see dumping the rivers and strikers for them, but only time will tell as they begin to wear.

Also am holding my breath for production opto pures... man-oh-man i hope they're released soon!

Some moderate changes:
Drivers (165-170g):
Havoc - Long flex shots and hyzer flips, 350+
SOLF 1.1 - beat straight, 300+
QOLF 1.2 - long forward fade and head wind, 300+
River GL - (2) in differing weights and wear stages, 275+
Diamond Opto 156g - Finese driver, tunnel flips, long turns.
XXX GL - Overhand and Meat Hook

Midrange (170-175g):
Core GL 175g - My fairfway driver. Stable with minimal fade, 275+
Comet ESP 175g- tunnels, tailwinds, stand stills, under 250 feet
Hornet Z 170g - Dependable fade for shot shaping.

P&A (170g):
Pure GripLine - Driving and putting until Optos are available.
  • The strikers are out of the bag as the OLF continues to be my "perfect" disc this year. A light "pro" plastic Striker may change this.
  • I am still toying with QJLS. While there is considerable overlap with the Rivers, the QJ's are not as nose angle sensitive and can be thrown on some diverse lines. There are holes at my home couse where the Rivers are perfect and other holes where the QJs are perfect.

...and slowly, the OLF takes over bags like the blob.

lol yeah i have noticed that as of late too.. lots of QOLF love going on.. not that its a bad thing
... also i would think you could pair the River and QJ's together.. doesnt the QJ have more fade and i would think it would handle wind better then the river does.. i can see the overlap tho

The bag for the summer.
Drivers (165-170g):
SOLF 1.1 - beat straight, 350+
QOLF 1.2 - long forward fade and head wind, 320+
River GL - (2) in differing weights and wear stages, 300+
Teebird Champ 12x - My everything driver
Diamond Opto 156g - Finese driver, tunnel flips, long turns
XXX GL - Fade, skips, and utility

Midrange (170-175g):
Core GL 175g - My fairfway driver. Stable with minimal fade, 275+
Comet ESP 175g- tunnels, tailwinds, stand stills, under 250 feet
Hornet Z 170g - Dependable fade for shot shaping.

P&A (176g):
Pure Opto- Driving and Approach
Pure TM2- Putting and skippless approaching

  • All Hail the Opto Pure! It is the best putt and approach disc ever. And i really dig the feel of TM2 Pures. So the griplines are out.
  • Gained more distance with the SOLFs so I rarely carry the havocs. Hawk Hollow is the only place i throw them so they're off the list.
  • I added a champ teebird back in for overhand drives and approaches, my pitiful excuse for a forehand flick, and backhand drives when the SOLFs are too much fade.
  • The next experiment will be the new Lat64 Saint, but i don't expect much variation from OLFs.
