Bummer, looks like you are right! Good thing you have other options.

Depends on what your goals are.
Getting to Worlds -> Points
Gloating -> Rating
Winning -> Transcending the non-sense

Speaking as a guy, women only events are amazing. There will be an A-Tier Women's Only event that we are expecting well over 120 women September 14-15. Technically I think the lower divisions are playing it as a B-Tier, but it will be huge (This year now past we had around 105 or 110). Ladies, put it on your Calendar to be in Colorado for this one. Rocky Mountain Women's Disc Golf Championships September 14-15. Be There!

On another note, Points, Ratings, and Rankings are all important for what they represent. They are all things that you can set goals for. Just do not try to make any one of the comprehensive.

Points for Pros I think is an awesome measure for sponsors as it measures the number of events and how well you play at events. You play more big tournaments, you will have more points.

What in tarnation is this gal up to now, comparing Tee-ball to disc golf? This girl's about as sharp as a Tee-ball. Points, rating, whatever, probably just depends on your goals. For me now, it's rating.

Growing up a common saying was "2nd place is the First Loser". or as Ricky Bobby's Dad said "If you ain't First you're last". Get your bottle of Tiger Blood and get to it.

Just my 2 cents.
The Player of the Year points and the PDGA points are two separate things.
Here are the current standings for Player of the Year points.
