They can also go really far. I max out at 300' flat ground distance with my Comet but I've seen them thrown much farther. But Wizards (I actually throw Anodes now) and Comets aren't fun just because you can throw them far. They're fun because you can throw a pure, sweeping hyzer or anyhyzer or a straight laser that glides for ever right to the basket. There's nothing sweeter than a pure hyzer that glides for days and goes right where you want it to, even if it is only a 250' or 300' shot. Great shots are not always long ones, and the discs you can control will give you great shots. The disc you can't control will result in frustrating noob hyzers, looking around in the woods for your disc that meathooked, or complete inability to throw anything but your Boss because your form's totally jacked up.
How far do I have to disc down to be cooler than you guys? "My Towel only goes 5 feet, but its beautiful and it never goes off line". Come on zealots, help the guy out with a driver in his speed range and move on. Even in the "Disc Down Adventure" thread they where throwing 10 speed discs. Not that we need a 10 speeder in this situation.

Hey guys, just wanted to give an update. Today I finally got my Pro 166g Leopard, along with a 149g Diamond Light and a 174g Aero (someone took my stingray). I watched a couple videos on technique and read some, along with watching a video of myself driving. So I went to the disc golf field with my friend. I was pretty happy with the results, I was doing a standstill or 1 step throw just to get my arm and shoulder motions down, but ended up throwing a couple of 300 footers and a couple flex shots that maybe went a little farther. I accidentally threw my diamond on a very far flex shot that caught the wind and kept going and it slammed straight into a curb. Thank god for opto plastic, it didn't have to bad of damage but I was still disappointing that I beat up my nice disc on the first day. Oh well, it went good overall. Thanks everyone I'm glad you guys convinced me to disc down a little.

if your throwing 175 starfire 275ft then stay away from drivers less than 162.

you throwing too far for womens drivers (unless your trying to anny)

try getting the lowest weight starfire you can find in good plastic(mid 160s usually) and work on keeping the nose down and getting some snap.

IMO

also a max weight valk would be nice for throwing straight now and later will be more usefull when your throwing farther

if i hadnt found a 163 QJLS ( i bought it for the color , didnt know about weights) , i might still be teeing off my rubber putter tomahawk.

to be honest i was on the brink of quiting because i couldnt find a driver to go straight . throwing that qjls 300ft is how i learned to throw

Im a little surprised mud stuffin isnt here to educate you that throwing putters in a field is te worst idea ever

Step 1, do not listen to any discgolf related posts by stud muffin, hes a gypsy, you know what that means...

Step 2, get a nice high speed stable putter, practice your drives and accuracy at a distance

Step 3, move up to a faster disc, a neutral midrange(comet is the default amswer but there are a couple others) work with that for awhile, get to a point where your distance is at least 20% farther than your putter and your accuracy is good as well, then step 4.

Step 4,....

Step 5, Profit

Definitely going to get a Comet as I need a good midrange that I can develop my form with as well, but not sure which plastic is straight flying on them. I really like Z\champion plastic for durability. What do you guys think?

Any Comet will be ok. X plastic is more touchy that Z, but a Z Comet is still a Comet.

If you're buying it to work on your form, an Elite-X in a lighter weight is the way to go. As mentioned above it is very touchy, but that's what you want in that situation. If you're buying for the course, any plastic will do. I carried ESP and Z before I started throwing the Flying Squirrel, but I have an old X for the field.

Pro Vulcan/ Millineum Astra

I dont have a big arm either but the Vulcan is forgiving i throw valks wraiths averger ss's about 300 ft the vulcan i can get up to 350. The astra when it breaks in is understable and a slower speed great for controled drives.
