Sanctioned vs. non-sanctioned events

Do you prefer PDGA sanctioned events or non-sanctioned events?

Sanctioned events.

I like playing rated rounds, for whatever reason.

Except for Ice Bowls and membership tournaments, I've never played an unsanctioned tournament. Don't see the point... but really, I've just never heard of one. I don't think they exist in these parts.

I prefer a well ran tournament. If its sanctioned, that's worth the extra $10.

Some folks like the organization and competition level of a multi-round event with the laid back feel of a league. The benefit of being able to enjoy an adult beverage while they play being one perk.

Sanctioned.

"Unsanctioned" takes in a broad selection of events. Some are as well-run and -attended as sanctioned tournaments, but the TD has elected not to sanction them, for whatever reason. But the term also encompasses plenty of less-organized, less-formal, less-consistently-formatted events.

A tourney stamp disc and $50 cash for a 3rd place finish in Advanced Grandmaster, in a very fun, laid-back tourney. That's a pretty good point.

I have only played in unsanctioned events since the 1990's. I'm more about the fun, than serious competition.
