Youth Program for Disc Golf

How do we develop a youth program for Disc Golf like other sports such as soccer and baseball have developed?

Charlotte ran some sort of youth leagues last year, in conjunction with the parks department, I believe.

Huntersville did a day camp last year, I did a week of counseling with the kids.

Mark Huether is the point of contact.

Just last night at our club meeting a rep from Park and Rec was there to discuss the youth league and we plan to integrate our activities to increase attendance across the board.

Mecklenburg County Park and Rec will run two different Youth Leagues this year, one at Elon, and one at Reedy Creek.

Pittsburgh does the Scholastic Series, which is 5 or 6 events for middle schoolers (Elementary is included in Middle) and high schoolers to compete for their schools. The winning school gets to hold on to an epic trophy for the year.

Some of the events coincide with PDGA events as well so that the youngsters can get ratings too.

It is ran by J. Gary Dropcho (disc golf legend).
