What ONE course is a must play when passing through Houston?

What part of Houston? North, South, Central... big city with a wide spread to the courses.

I'll be coming in on 290 from Austin and heading east on I10. I don't mind going out of my way for a great course, if there is one in Houston.

mac gregor 18 and mozola 9 are both close to I10 are the best on the southside, nothing worth driving any further south for. ive never played any on the northside just takes to long and dont know anybody up there but from what ive seen on the sight they look alot better then whats down here. mozola and mac gregor are pretty close together and dont take long to play so id play them both. if your going solo to mac bring some heat

You gotta play Spring Valley on the Northside. One of the best courses in the Houston area.


If you like Wooded coures, I live near River Grove Park in Kingwood.

I'd say spring valley. Unless you can throw 400' to 500' accurately. Then you should play the Largo...(big drums and cymbal crashes)

You should actually stop at Manor coming down 290 from Austin. It's really not 15 min off of 290, but is a must play.

Oak Meadow Park DGC would be ideal if you're coming down 290... except you have to play with a resident of the subdivision to get past the security guards. I'll PM you a couple contacts that may be able to help get you in. Oak Meadow Park DGC is arguably the best course in Houston.

Second choice would be the 10,110' Largo configuration of The LINKS at Quail Valley. An excellent course that will really test your upshots. In this age of better and better beveled edge discs a lot of courses are turning into drive+long putt+tap in courses. The Largo blows that type of course away with an average hole length of 562' you'll be throwing real upshots on this layout. But this course is all about getting your disc to the right spot with water hazards on 16 of the 18 holes. A realistic par 68. Let me know if this is your choice and I can almost assuredly hook you up with a guide.

On the far South side is Jack Brooks Park, another nice course which in the near future will have two 18-hole courses, but for now still only has about one and a half.

Spring Valley DGC up on the far North side is worth playing if you like wooded technical courses. If you play on a weekday you can play the additional "Power 9" holes that are longer holes on the ball golf course which are normally closed to disc golfers on the weekends.

Jim Mozola Memorial DGC (Bayou Course) and MacGregor Park are both decent courses, but not as good as the first three I have listed above.

If you end up really far North (Conroe) McDade Park is worth playing.

If you have a whole day to set aside, heres the best way to do it. There are three courses, two good and one great, north of town in Spring and the Woodlands, all within less than 5 miles of each other.

Spring Valley(18), Bear Branch Sports Park (18), Terramont Park(9)

All pretty much on the same road even. Look at the map and its pretty obvious. Head west from the highway, play the northernmost one first, and work your way south, then just cut across back to the highway. Planned communities have great roads.

Forget Oak Meadow. Yes, its an amazing park; WAS an amazing park, before the neighborhood went 1981 on Disc Golfers from outside. Not many DGers live there, and definitely DO NOT play without a local. Its just not worth it, unless the stars align.

Mozola's nice, but only 9 holes, and its hard to navigate the one-way streets and overpasses downtown to get to it, not to mention parking, which is tough.

Don't know about Jack Brook or the Links, but Spring Valley is technical, tightly wooded, and even with some water and terrain in play. During the week it plays as 27.

the last 3 at brooks are in my top 5 but there are alot of filler holes havnt played the new course though the old course id turn into a nine hole
