Hole O' the Day for August 2nd, 2010

Oak Park in Wichita, KS

Hole #18, par 3, two tees, 237 ft, 297 ft, the longer of which involves a throw over a bit of water.

Short tee (from course page)

Long Tee

I think I'm gonna throw a Buzzz from the short and an Eagle from the long.

I would go Meteor Short and An Eagle or Cyclone on the long. It depends on how deep the water is.

It's a lily pond and about 18 inches deep tops. Unfortunately, its also often covered with nasty algae making spotting difficult.

I checked the distances on Google Earth, and it seems to suggest the long tee is more like 315', with about 280' needed to clear the water. Its not uncommon to have a stiff wind out of the south (right to left) on some days so you may want to take that into consideration.

I hate that damn teepad. Its off kilter, and that little retaining wall alongside it makes a lateral run up from the left side difficult.

Short: Voodoo, anny (doesn't look like I have to cross water, just make sure it turns)
Long: Eagle, to be safe, there looks to be enough room to aim right and let it fade in.

The short is more interesting than it appears. The pin is blind from there, and its not uncommon for people to tee off the pad laterally with a spike hyzer or overhand and go over the water. There's about a 15' elevation drop from the pad to the basket. Here's an overhead.

Looks like Google took that shot during the winter. Of course, lack of foliage helps make that route more appealing.

Short: RHBH Stingray
Long: I am going to RHFH a Flick with an anny angle aiming right of the basket. Best bet for me her cause it will fight out of it and fade toward land and consistantly get me 300' more than my wild BH.
