Unhappy Hand Injury: How long until I should play again?

So, while cleaning my 870 12 gauge last night, I sliced open my thumb pretty good, probably deep enough to have stitches, but it was too late for the clinic so we just bandaged it up the best we could. Sliced it from the pad of the thumb to first bend.

In a fit of brilliance, I probably further aggravated it by shooting clays in a tournament for 4 hours today.

Given my throwing style, RHFH for drives, RHBH putting, 'bout how long would typically be normal to let it heal?

I know i probably shouldn't until it gets to 100% (ish), but I'm not sure i can stand to wait that long !

Yup, go lefty.

10-14 days should be fine, let the wound seal itself and then have at it unless there is nerve damage, then I would consult a physician.

Lefty... oh that will be an adventure.

Also, how would one know if nerve damage has been done?

Numbness in a part of the hand beyond the cut would be my best guess. I am an engineer, a physician would be best to consult if you have concerns.

Good luck.

You have some experience, eh?

I probably will, if for nothing else than making sure I'm up to date on my Tetanus shots.

Your wound cannot be stitched at this point, since it's been too long. But you should definitely seek medical attention as soon as possible to avoid further complications.

Yeah. I mean, I get it. I try to avoid the doctor if at all possible, and my post probably would have been more helpful the night of the injury. But, the risk of infection or possible internal damage to the thumb would probably motivate me to go in for that kind of injury. And you want to make sure the thing is healing correctly.
As much as it sucks, just let it heal. Taking a little time off now to let it heal up is going to be much better than continually aggravating it and prolonging the process. (Easier said than done. I know.)
