Texas instead

Well, the nasty weather forecast for Georgia, combined with the fact that flyboy is closed, has rerouted us to sunny Texas.

I'm going to be playing at Russ Barnett and then Chautauqua in Mississippi tomorrow, then head down to Louisiana for highland road park and acadiana. Onward to Houston after that, and figuring it out from there.

Any Mississippians or louisianians have any tips on these courses, or any others to hit up? Any Houston area advice, too? I'm thinking two days there, then two days somewhere else (Austin or DFW, probably).

I still have a ton of research to do for all of the Texas courses, but I'd rather take the butchers word . Or if anyone wants to play tour guide, I'm always down for that. Seems like there is a huge number of Texans active on here; lay it on me!!!

I would do Flanacher Road DG instead of Highland. Hurricanes have done some damage to Highland.
Flanacher is 21 holes, north of Baton Rouge in a hardwood setting. Both have reviews here on DGCR and here is a link with maps.http://www.brec.org/index.cfm?md=pag...=home&cpid=351
PM me if I can help more.

Bayouace - awesome, that is good to know. I will definitely check that out.

Roc1time, the only way you're getting money from me is through a sale! . Just kidding of course; I sport a 850 rating .

GDBP, Hey! Hope you're doing well and this holiday season has treated you guys favorably, B and I still talk about how awesome our stay with you all was.

This that you speak of was my first DG road trip, Chautauqua was quite enjoyable, wish I would have gotten to play Flanacher - especially since there was a tourney going on, I was just a couple hours too late, LaFayette Acadiana isn't necessarily a must see, but a fun pair of courses if you have the time to spare.

Houston, Must play (from my experience, I've played a good chunk of the 3-4.5 rated courses but not all): Spring Valley, Windwood, Northside Christian (Play both 9 hole layouts), Jack Brooks, and I would definitely call up Steve Dufrane and head up to Shawshank (see if he'll play a round with you and tell him Martin from MN says hi). Then head to Austin - there's a grip of must play courses there with a return trip through DFW.

If you do Highland Road, the map is not accurate. Take out 13 and 14 due to new tennis courts. 15 becomes 13, 16 becomes 14 ...18 becomes 16. 17 tee now is back across the gully from 18. Look up the hill under a large oak branch and you'll see 17. Short but tight gap. 18 tee is on the hill toward hole 4 and back acoss the gully to the basket under a tree just behind Hole 1 tee. Boy Scout navigation merit badge available.

^^^^Good stuff there....

Eric G. had good things to say about Shawshank and it's owner. PM him regarding houston as well. Having played a number in Dallas/Fort Worth and Austin; I can say they are probably the better areas; but, from Eric's endorsement; I would look into Shawshank. Austin is a Madison, Wisco type of town. Pretty cool vibe there if you're going to do some in town stuff.
