Fire Mountain DGC in New Castle, CO

Rating: 3.63
18 Holes
Est. 2006
Designer: TJ Lawrence
Distance: N/A
Par 54 (One set of tees, One set of basket positions)
DGA Baskets
Mixed Tees (Dirt, Crushed Rock, Outdoor Carpet)

HOLE #5 TEE (Basket is hanging in the line of trees to the left just beyond the giant boulder)

View of the hanging basket as you approach from up the hill

I estimate that the hole is maybe a little over 150 feet long.

It is certainly a putter shot, preferably something overstable (RHBH) that you can put out to the right and sink down right under the basket.

As you can see from the basket pic (and a bit more from the tee pic) there is a pretty hard side slope going from high on the right to low on the left. Putt attempts that hit the basket or trees are known to roll away extremely easily down the hill.

A very poor shot through the trees can end up in tall grass on the edge of the river, and, for part of the summer, risk being lost to the mighty Colorado itself.

I've seen this hole aced and I've seen 5's taken on it due to bad approaches and the slew of guardian trees near the basket.

Overall, this course is a ton of fun. Short and technical with plenty of water in play on nearly half of the holes. The Roaring Fork Disc Golf Club takes great care of it and hosts a few tournaments here every year.

It makes for a great daily double if you head to nearby Glenwood Springs and play the Colorado Mountain College course (which happens to be ranked 31st in the U.S. as per the Top courses of 2010 on DGCR)

I'm also a guide for this course (and the pictures you see here are mine) so if anyone makes it out this way (Its just off of I-70, you can see the baskets across the river from the highway) let me know.

Hell yeah man. You should come up to Eagle for the Ice Bowl on the 30th.

I won't be able to make it to the Grand Valley one. I'm going to be down in Georgia (hopefully playing Flyboy Aviation at some point)

So cool looking! I'm extremely jealous and this course has now been added to my wish list.

Using a warlock on this one
