Opportunity for a new course in Winston Salem, NC?!?!

I think I need to get the local club stirred up about this, a city that seems to be DG and park friendly, just itching to spend money on building a new park for a "regional destination".

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (WGHP)— The City of Winston-Salem wants to turn an old rock quarry into a regional destination.

Suggestions will be taken from 10 a.m. to noon at the Roscoe Anderson Recreation Center on how to develop 80 acres near Winston-Salem State University.

The land's centerpiece is a lake that has developed from an old rock quarry. The water in the lake is so clear that rocks thrown into it can be seen almost to the very bottom.

"I think it could be one of the biggest regional draws in the state. Rock quarries that become what this has become are rare," said Tim Grant, the city's director of recreation and parks.

The ultimate goal is to have something different to do on the land 365 days a year.

"Maybe on the upper end you could do ball fields, hiking, picnicking, outdoor concerts, amphitheaters," Grant said.

The city has money to develop a master plan for the land, which was donated to the city in 1997.

"These opportunities to develop master plans on this scale don't happen every day. So if we're going to do it, we need to do it right," Grant said.

The city hopes to have the park completed in the next 10 to 15 years.

Neat. The Piedmont is sorely lacking in courses compared to that behemoth, Charlotte. We Piedmont frolfers need to band together and organize so that we can get crap done.

i'm with dave on this one. we have great courses in the piedmont but i want some diversity damnit. why is everything got to be pretty much short and technical?

I'm sure the "10 to 15 years" was having the park completely done. 2 to 4 18 hole DG courses should take 3/5 years. I don't know the area, does the area already have the stuff the article talked about?
