I'm up 3 to 857. Tossed my second ever 900 rated round. Both times on the same course, not my home course though, maybe I should move

Down 3 to 965. cgkdisc, isnt the formula roughly 2 best rounds from the most recent event times 2, than adding every other round and dividing by the number of rounds? I also have one tournament where the conditions were input in preliminary ratings with a 56 at 999 round one and 57 at 989 round 2 now has the 56 at 980 when the scores and conditions were a lot worse. Oh well.. just trying to squeeze a couple more points out of there.

Thank you that helps!

Your most recent 25% of your rounds are double weighted, not specifically 2 rounds.

I have a spreadsheet I put together for personal use that calculates to +/- 1 point, willing to share if you want to see it.

That'd be great. I always try and calculate my rating after events with the unofficial ratings just so I'll have an idea. This update is just the furthest Ive been off on my calculations so far.

See attached for an example of why double weighting the most recent 25% of rounds is insufficient to prevent bagging. As it is, people who play a lot of tournament rounds in a year and get a lot better doing it have ratings far below their actual playing ability. That's a major reason why there are always people playing int or rec and playing at a much higher level. It's not a fluke. It's ratings lag.

I think it would be better to calculate an average for the past year and an average for the past 10-16 rated rounds and take the highest. That way, people can't easily drive their ratings down intentionally, and are forced to play at their real skill level after a few consecutive tournaments of exhibiting play at that level.
