You said you went to throw a quick round and your Beast was hooking on you. I don't want to assume anything so:
Have you ever been able to throw your Beast and consistently get it to do anything other than hook? I mean did your form go hell, or have you never gotten a Beast to drive nicely? If you've never been able to throw it, try discing down: Leopard or maybe a Sidewinder. No sense throwing what might be halfway decent form out-of-whack trying to get a disc to "behave." Might simply be a case of not getting enough zip on it outta your hand. That will come with time. If you used to throw it well, then you need people to watch your mechanics to see where your technique needs work.

It's very rare that the beast actually work for me. When it does, it's a damn good shot usually reaching ~350. But I really don't think I'm ready for the beast. I think I might trade it for another driver. Any thoughts?

Get rid of the drivers and go out the next few months using a Shark, Comet, Roc, Buzz, & Wasp. Your game will thank you.

I would guess from throwing RHBH, that you're throwing it with too much hyzer. It's a -2 turn 2 fade disc and if it's fading hard on you that you need to flatten out your release a bit.
Try coming from a reach back point at shoulder height and pulling straight through. When you start turning the disc over (turning right) slowly start increasing your hyzer again untill you start seeing it flatten out.

I would just start with a buzzz for a mid, and then work the comet in later. the shark, roc, buzzz, and wasp all overlap (well, enough for a new person)

Is this hooking problem common with beginners?

In a general sense; yes.
BTW, you are good to go with the Leopard and Buzzz. That will be fine to work with. |
