Playing out of division

So I'm signed up for rec in an upcoming c-tier. There's 10 of us, one of which has a 907 rating. What's going to keep him from playing rec? When and how is that checked?

There's a 2-week grace period for events after ratings update if a person is pre-registered before the ratings update. So if the event is this weekend, and he pre-reg'd with a rating below 900 then he's okay. Otherwise, either the TD sees that his rating is too high and adjusts the division or people like yourself let the TD know.

More than likely it'll be people like you that says something. In all the PDGA tournaments I've played in, no TD has ever asked to see my card or to check to see if I'm playing in the right division.

Yeah, the tournament is August 6th. The guy is a buddy of mine and I don't really care what division he plays in, it just got me thinking about how that situation is handled.

Isn't the cutoff for rec 850? If it is 850 then over half the field is over the cutoff. In addition to the guy rated 907, 2 people are rated 894, 1 is rated 891, another is rated 887, and the last guy who is over 850 is rated 858.

If your playing in a tournament series for overall points, your allowed to play the same division all year, regardless of your rating. For instance, say before you play your first tourney of the year, your rated 825, and play rec. Even if your rated 950 after just that one tournament you can finish the year playing rec in that series to compete for winning the points championship for that division.

Been burned by that rule in am2 this year. 3 guys are competing for the series championship are 950+ rated.

The series TD has to clear that with the PDGA before the league starts if that's going to be the rule. Only events in the series are affected by that ruling. If these higher rated players enter any other PDGA event not in the series, then they have to play where their rating currently resides.
