The Men and Women of DGCR

We know the names and avatars, but most of us dont know each other that well, so i thought it would be a good idea to write up a bit about ourselves(i know its on our profiles, but we dont always look at em)

Anyways, im 23 guy and in southern OR. Married for almost a year. I have only been playing for about a year and never played in a tourney or comeptition yet. The first year was a bit rough with all the form issuses and what not but i believe i have grown a lot in it. I have always been a puzzle solver and figuring out the correct way and form to throw was a nice challenge for me i have been working hard on just technique(playing midranges and putters on a slightly shorter course, Riverfront OR) and my grip. Since doing that i have been able to go out to whistlers bend and throw another 3 over. On both 16 and 18 i threw some mighty bombs that went to the trees on both holes. Someday, maybe friday, ill play in a tourney. Outside of disc golf i am very athletic. i loved baseball and was a competant batter. That help discing because i already knew how to throw my body into something and adapted it to the driving. My wife and I lke to raise service dogs(wheelchair assistance and autism dogs) and guide dogs, she mostly does it. My bag i can say is very much to my liking now, i have-

Star Destroyer- 169 Main Driver
Champ Wraith- 175 Distance Forehander
Champ Monster- 168 Overstable, Wind Driver
Champ TeeBird- 168 Control, Accurate BH or FH
Champ Roc- 180 Totally Sweet Go-To Mid
Star Cro- 175 Stable Mid And Short FH
Champ Rhyno- 168 Driving Putter
JK-Pro Aviar-X- ? Main Approach And Putt

I mentioned that i like to throw my body into the shot and with the stable to overstableness of the bag I can achieve the power i like to throw with and still not flip the bag over. For the right turning holes I worked for quite a while to develop a adequete FH throw that can turn bout as much as I want to. I could probably take the Wraith or Destroyer out as they are pretty close to the same, but i love the destroyer and a huge Star Wars fan and would be sick to lose another destroyer so i use the wraith for FH and the shots i dont wanna throw the destroyer. My puttin is by far my weakest part of my game, most of the time i dont have much confidence at 20' and on. Sometimes when Im just in the zone i can start dropping em in from that distance with some consistancy and accuracy, but that dont happen often.

Anyways, sorry for the novel, just wanted to say all that so its out of my head now. Thats bout all there is to my discing history and disc choices.

I'm a disrespectful piece of trash, but I prefer complete and utter bastard. My hobbies include disc golfing, long walks on the beach, and playing with my peeping tom Schnauzer. 2 years of playing, haven't played a tourney yet due to tendonitis setback, but I have a decent LHBH now to go with RHBH and RHFH. I love my TBird, Impact, Skeeter, Buzzz, Roc, and Warlocks. I have a history degree, working on an Anthro degree and then off to grad school if the economy is still in the sh!tter. I'm also Brett Martin's #1 fan, I'm really excited he is getting a bag, it should help his game out tremendously or at least he won't lose his keys again. I'm a sarcastic smart-ass that won't refrain from grammar nazi-ry and chances are good I hate your taste in music. If you got a problem with any of this you can respectfully sod off.

Yep, hate your taste in music. God I'm good.

I actually had a point in the car today where all my tolerable radio stations were playing Aerosmith, Bon Jovi, and Nickelback at the same time. I seriously contemplated throwing my car into a tree and ending it right there.

I would say I have lived a unique life. Maybe it was being recovered from a crashed space craft as a wee boy, or that my hair always curled in front, or my love of capes, but I always new I was destined for great things. Now at the age of 31 I find myself flat out dominating this amusing earth game called disc golf......

Ok now that I've come out of my comic induced nerd hallucination. I can get to the real me. First off I'm a giant kid, and I mean that literally (I think being 6'6 330 constitutes giant these days) , I love video games, comics, disc golf, movies, and TV. I try to avoid responsibility at all costs and even when I'm at work I'm still screwing around. Basically I feel life is to short so why not have as much fun as you can while you're here. My background in disc golf is pretty basic back in the spring of 2005 a buddy of mine who had moved here from Austin introduced me to the game. I couldn't throw back hand to save my life but he showed me a little grip called the thumber and it was all good from there. Playing at my home course (Bear Branch - Woodlands Tx.) I learned how enjoyable this game can be. I basically played whenever my friends wanted to and didn't take the game seriously. Well not until this year when a friend of mine I worked with decided to start playing as well. His enthusiasm about the game inspired me to get better and strive for more competition. Three tournaments later I'm hooked and can't see doing anything else with my free time but throw some frisbees at metal cages.

As for my personal life I've been married for six years, I have 3 dogs, 5 cats and no kids (I think if I did have kids, I would have to move out, because there'd be no room). I have a select group of friends and they are like family to me.

My discs of choice are listed below.
Star Boss 175 - Thing is mean.
ESP Buzzz 174 - Straightest flying disc in existence.
DGA Titanic 175 - Great overstable putter.
Star SL 175 - The best long range thumber disc I've ever thrown.
Elite Z XS 168 - The best midrange thumber (my favorite disc).

Finally I just want to say that I have been blown away by how friendly, funny, and cool almost everyone is on this site and in the disc golf community overall. I feel very lucky to have met some great people playing and talking about disc golf and I hope to meet many more.

One should never stop someone from driving in to trees there are many more to fill the gap.

Well for me, I am 31 native Floridian. I am child at heart and enjoy doing almost anything that involves being outside. I camp often and attend live music events as much as I can afford too, and then some. I am a admitted geek, as I have owned a computer for 27 years. So I took what I know and turned into a career. I am a IT specialist that can do almost anything with a computer. and before you ask I will not fix your computer. I tend to keep my profession to myself unless I figure out whether or not you will call me every day about "The Internet" being broken.

Unlike most stereo typical geeks I am not athletically challenged. I grew up trying to balance being in 'gifted' classes with playing sports and not getting labeled a nerd. I find disc golf is a perfect match for the physical need for sports with the geek that like to figure out the physics of any given shot.

In my bag (and old lunchbox cooler) you will find the following:
174G SS Surge FLX
175g & 164g Wraiths Star & Champion
172g & 150 Valkryies Star & Champion
169g Buzzz ESP
168g Aviar DX
170g beat up panther turns over with out trying.. DX
170g Firebird. Star
180g Gateway Element ?
170s SSS
6 168 Soft Magnets Pro-D

I am 32 originally from Pensacola FL. My dad was in the Navy so we lived in FL, Cuba, and Maine. I was a certified car audio installer and subwoofer designer until I decided that I was probably going to ruin my life with drugs and alcohol so I joined the Navy. I passed all the tests, got my waivers, and became a nuclear machinist mate after some of the most gruelling and stress inducing schools I have ever experienced.

While in Norfolk I met my wife via my roommate who went to school with her. He talked to her on ICQ and I stole her from her douchey husband up in Philly. This is where we started playing DG at Newport News Park.

I spent 8.5 years in the Navy, finishing my tour out in Ballston Spa NY...beautiful town and close to Saratoga where I learned how to play the ponies. Never made crazy cash because I never made crazy bets but always came out ahead at the end of the season.

We then moved to the Atlanta area where I took over a maintenance position at a couple rebar fab shops. I later started online school and recently graduated with a degree in management and a 3.91 average...getting nearly 70 credits from my nuke career didn't hurt!!

Our company started transitioning to SAP and I jumped on board with that and now I run the admin for our east group, expanding to 16 shops in Oct. We started playing again in the March timeframe and have played every weekend since.

I enjoy building tube audio equipment from scratch and have sold several of one of my designs. We also are weekend season ticket holders for our local ECHL hockey team, the Gwinnett Gladiators. With that I like to collect hockey jerseys, mostly replicas because the game worns are so expensive.

I think I am going to start my Masters soon because I already have 6 credits from doing a dual-enrollment and also with the GI Bill I make a little cash on the deal too.

We have a daughter and a stepson, the son really likes DG but is horribly out of shape and our daughter plays about 3 holes on an average day.

I am huge into Latitude 64 discs and Gazelles.
The wife likes Innova Star.
Our daughter loves the Comet and Viper oddly enough.
The son has not played long enough to make a decision but he is doing pretty good with my wifes DX Stingray.
